WILLFUL IGNORANCE: America Has Completely Lost The Idea Of Who God Actually Is

By now, many articles have been written, interviews watched, memes shared across social media about the Kim Davis dilemma from every different perspective. Her situation has placed the First Amendment of the Constitution right in the spotlight. The First Amendment guarantees freedom of religion which is very fundamental to sustain the freedoms everyone enjoys in America. It is interesting to see how people react to her situation. I am no lawyer, so when the situation broke out, I paused for a moment to get the whole story. You would think that ALL reasonable, freedom loving Americans would want ALL Americans to have those very fundamental human rights protected, whatever their stance is on gay marriage. This doesn’t seem to be the case throughout America anymore.

Kim Davis got thrown in jail because she is a sincere Christian that is unwilling to forgo her First Amendment right of freedom of religion. She is also unwilling to make up her own god. She still has the right to not have to violate her conscience in America and nobody should force her to do this. Do we really want to live in a country that allows this to happen? We want to put people in jail for their religious beliefs? How hard can it be to accommodate this woman? Hopefully many of you are still with me. So many people get really ticked off about this topic.

What I find most fascinating is all the references I see to God on BOTH sides of the discussion. People are claiming God would approve of Kim signing the licenses issued to gay couples. What god are we all talking about? I truly understand how emotional this issue is to so many people. Just about all of us, including myself, have a family member or close friend who has come out and said they were gay, but is it wise to twist God’s unchanging Word to accommodate and validate us.

Let me say up front that if you ever heard that “God hates gays” or “all gays are going to Hell,” you are listening to a very Biblically illiterate person. This is some god they made up in their own head. This simply is not true. Hear about what happened on the Cross on Calvary? That was for everyone, absolutely everyone that accepts the Lord Jesus. The god these people are referring to is not the God of the Bible. Nobody will be in Hell because they are gay or because commit any other sin, even if they stay homosexual until they die. The God of the Bible loves everyone and wants nobody to perish. Hell will be filled with sinners that never accepted Jesus Christ as Savior before they took their last breath and Heaven will be filled with sinners that did accept Christ. “Sir what must I do to be saved? Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved, you and your household.” (Acts 16:30-31.)

So some of you are thinking right now, so what is the big deal then? Why shouldn’t she just sin? When we keep normalizing what God calls sin, we help man to continue to deaden their consciences and keep them from the reality of sin separating them from God. This is ANY sin. We actually push them further away from Heaven. Why would we do this on purpose when we know better? Davis knows better, maybe you don’t yet, but when the principle is still honored, hope is still there…. That is real love.

Everyone wants to claim that God is okay with them continuing to sin and I believe they are referring to the God of the Bible, but very few really get to know what this God is really all about. A holy, morally perfect, God, would not encourage any sin and neither should we. He wouldn’t want sin to feel normal to us.

The one thing I will agree that I am growing increasingly intolerant of is willful ignorance. It is so crystal clear to me that America is straight up confused about who the real God is, but they have no desire what-so-ever to find out about Him because it really is much easier to make Him up as we go along. People that actually do have the right idea are now the criminals. I have had discussions with people I love that take the opposite viewpoint of myself and have asked them to read an article or look at something and have been told that there is nothing I can say that can change their minds. Well, that sounds very intolerant to me. Seems to me that everything is being tolerated accept the Christian perspective. Isn’t that blatant intolerance of anyone who holds this perspective?

I said in a previous column that we now live in a Godless society and quite frankly, I think I need to clarify this, especially after seeing all the posts, articles and memes, etc. that were circulated because of Kim Davis. We live in a very spiritual world. In fact, it seems to me that everyone really does want a god on their side. Everyone is claiming this and that about God and it seems to me that we all are making up our own gods!!!! Custom made gods is the new trend. So many are accusing others of creating God in their own image, but they don’t realize that they are doing exactly what they accuse others of. They are being intolerant of the real God and dumbing Him down to suit their own interests. I mean, it sounds great when we can just claim god would do this or wouldn’t do that. It makes our actions seem validated.

Davis isn’t making anything up and she went to jail. She should be applauded and supported not discriminated against.
