Our daughters need something stronger than just ‘not talking’ to strangers. In today’s broken world, they also need to understand self-defense.
A 53-year-old man has been arrested for the rape and murder of an eight-year-old girl who was snatched from her front porch as she waited for a ride to church.
Glen R. Ramey was taken into custody by Illinois State Police on Sunday accused of killing Sabrina Stauffenberg whose body was found behind a vinegar plant earlier in the week.
Ramey is charged with predatory sexual assault of a child and murder. He was remanded in custody at Richland County Jail.
…Police found Sabrina’s body on Wednesday by tracing her cell phone signal, it was reported. The eight-year-old was waiting for a bus service to collect her from her family’s home when the service was late.

What makes the story worse still was the fact that the attacker was ‘a friend of the father’.
Thugs pick victims because they can’t fight back. We need to tell our daughters that it isn’t just ‘ok’ to fight back.
We need to give them explicit permission to forgo any conditioned ‘be nice’ response if they ever face such a threat. Gouge the eyes. Kick the groin. Punch, scratch, kick, bite — whatever it takes to get away. If they have formal martial arts or weapons training, or are old enough to carry a firearm? So much the better for their chances of survival. If someone has to leave the scene in a box, it should be the thug.
