They’re unilaterally enacting gun control. What do you think of that?
To be clear, they are private businesses and can do whatever they like as long as it’s legal.
However, if you don’t approve, you can choose to take your money and shop elsewhere.
Two of the nation’s leading gun sellers, Walmart and Dick’s Sporting Goods, took steps on Wednesday to limit their sales of firearms, thrusting themselves into the middle of the polarizing national debate over gun control.
Walmart, the biggest gun seller, announced late in the afternoon that it would not sell any gun to anyone under 21 years of age. It also said it would no longer sell items resembling assault-style rifles, including toys and air guns.
So much for taking Junior to buy his first hunting rifle after he saved the money from mowing all those lawns.
Presently, it is legal to sell rifles to anyone over the age of 18, but handguns are restricted to those over the age of 21.
The Walmart announcement followed the statement by Dick’s Sporting Goods that they are upping the minimum age of purchase to 21 for all firearms, and no longer selling ‘assault-style rifles’, high capacity magazines, or bump stocks. In addition to this, Dick’s has called for the government to pass ‘common sense gun control.’ Check out our Clashified take on that here.
Walmart has indicated that their decision is a direct result of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting and the well-organized activism on the left for gun control — especially the restricting of AR-15s.
I guess they just can’t keep looking at the (carefully selected) traumatized students that the Left is shoving in front of the cameras and not ‘do something.’

Walmart and Dick’s acted after a number of major companies moved last week to dissociate themselves from the N.R.A. Hertz car rental, MetLife insurance and Delta Air Lines, among others, publicly ended their relationships with the organization.
In a news release late Wednesday, Walmart noted that in 2015 it discontinued the sale of high-powered rifles, including AR-15-style weapons, in its stores in the United States. But at the time, Walmart sidestepped any controversy involving gun politics, attributing its decision to lower customer demand for the military-style rifles.
This time, Walmart directly linked its action to the shooting in Florida, saying, “In light of recent events, we’ve taken an opportunity to review our policy on firearm sales.”

As a side note — Have you noticed that there was hardly a peep from the gun-grabbing Left — let alone a call for a gun ban — after the much deadlier Sutherland Springs massacre that killed 26 people and decimated entire families in a Texas church on a Sunday morning?
Even the outrage over the (still mysterious) Vegas shooting didn’t capture the activists’ attention for this long.
Perhaps it’s that Christian families and country music fans being slaughtered aren’t worth the activism like the malleable, progressive teens in Democrat-heavy Florida county. More likely, the Texas Christians and the patriotic country music fans wouldn’t be as quick to line up and spout off Democrat talking points on gun control.
Whatever the reason for the apathy in the aftermath of the Sutherland Springs massacre or Vegas and their new-found vigor in gun-grabbing in the wake of Parkland, it seems like there is traction.
Will the decision by Walmart and Dick’s caving to the pressure of activist groups change your shopping habits?
