Heroes run toward danger when everyone else runs from it. But in this case, they get … suspended? WTF?
SWAT was expected to do… what at Parkland HS???
That will take you over your daily recommended dose of WTF right there.
While the rest of us were discussing how to be proactive in preventing another situation like that from playing out in our own backyards…
A Christian's Response To The Valentine's Day Massacre – You Will Not Hear This In Sunday School!

… SWAT was discussing something else.
How to punish — yes, punish — two officers that charged in to try to stop the shooting.
The Miramar Police Department has suspended two officers from their SWAT team for responding to the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting without having orders to do so.
When the first reports of an active shooter came out, the Miramar officers were in training in Coral Springs, nearby the Parkland high school, and they rushed to assist in stopping the carnage that left 17 students and faculty fatally shot, and another 16 wounded, on Valentine’s Day, the Miami Herald reported.
What was the problem? Why were they punished? Not for rushing in, exactly. It was for failing to follow protocols. Failing to radio in.
Miramar Police Detectives Jeffrey Gilbert and Carl Schlosser were suspended from the Miramar SWAT team eight days after the shooting in Parkland, according to the Miami Herald.
Both remain on active duty with the department, but working in different capacities, the Sun-Sentinel reported.
“Effective immediately you have been suspended from the SWAT Team until further notice,” Miramar SWAT team commander Captain Kevin Nosowicz wrote in a Feb. 22 memo. “Please make arrangements with the training department to turn in your SWAT-issued rifle.”
The memo said Det. Gilbert and Det. Schlosser acted “without the knowledge or authorization from your chain of command” and created an “officer safety situation due to dispatch not knowing your location or activity” by heading to the massacre-in-progress independently.
They’re not being fired or docked pay. They’re being suspended from an active-duty role on SWAT until further notice. (Or for 8 days, depending on which source you go by.)
This is a helluva story to have Juxtaposed against those thumb-in-bum Broward deputies who stood outside passively listening to the systematic execution of seventeen people (to say nothing of the attempted murder of all those other kids with non-lethal injuries). Especially when Broward claimed it ‘did not need assistance from Miramar’s swat team’.
Right. Because those 4 deputies standing around doing nothing had everything perfectly ‘under control’.
The Broward County police union disagreed strongly with discipline being levied against the detectives.
“While it may have been a violation of policy to not notify their supervisors that they were going there, their intentions were brave and heroic, I think,” Broward County Police Business Association (PBA) President Jeff Marano told the Sun-Sentinel on Wednesday.
How do you feel about the reprimand?
Policy matters and saves lives? Or they went WAY too far?
Here’s a shirt for real men (and women, too):
Why be average? It’s so overrated.
Everyone does that.
