Yeti Blasts The NRA For Inaccurate Claims Against Them — Here’s 6 Things You Need To Know

***UPDATE April 24, 5:45 (ET)

Breitbart reports that they received an email from NRA President and current Unified Sportsmen of Florida (USF) Executive Director Marion Hammer regarding YETI. Hammer claims that YETI demanded that the NRA cease using the YETI name and logo after the horrific shooting in Parkland.

She writes:

YETI severed ties with the NRA and is now engaging in damage control after a backlash from many of its customers. In early March, YETI refused to place a previously negotiated order from NRA-ILA, citing “recent events” as the reason – a clear reference to the tragedy in Parkland, Florida. YETI then delivered notice to the NRA Foundation that it was terminating a 7-year agreement and demanded that the NRA remove the YETI name and logo from all NRA digital assets, as well as refrain from using any YETI trademarks in future print material. While YETI is trying to spin the story otherwise, those are the facts. While Yeti can choose to run from the NRA, they can’t run from the facts.

Hammer concluded with this:

Whether this is due to the recent cancellation of the IPO from their New York City owners is a question only they can answer.

END UPDATE***

Before you join the fun and load that cooler up with Tannerite to ‘send a message’ you might want to read this message.

The news feeds of Second Amendment Fans lit up yesterday. When word got out that Yeti had ‘cut ties’ with the NRA, there was plenty of outrage.

Because Patriotic Americans don’t like it when people mess with the Second Amendment.

Threatening their rights tends to get them agitated, naturally. And when it involves a company with a reputation for selling products for the Outdoors, that’s twice as bad.

(Just ask ‘Dick’s Sporting Goods‘ how quickly that crowd forgives and forgets.)

There was opportunism (including other brands selling outdoor gear and promising that whatever other brands might say, they still supported the Second Amendment, and will even donate cash to support the NRA). In a situation like this, that’s just good marketing and not the ‘real’ story.

Those who are sick and tired of people and businesses caving into anti-2A pressures took the ‘go big or go home’ route to voice their displeasure to what seemed like yet another anti-2A snub:

This one involved Tannerite and a great big ‘boom’.

While less dramatic, this made the same point by filling it with holes:

Now we’re seeing the ‘rest of the story’.

Sure, the NRA has been on the blunt end of society’s pool cue for the last couple of months, and they’re a little ‘touchy’. But they blew it in this case.

Here is the NRA press release that set off the protest:

For years YETI Coolers have been a hot item for sportsmen at the Friends of NRA Foundation Banquet and Auction events around the country.

These Foundation events raise money to support youth programs and educational programs nationwide. The youth of America who benefit from these programs are the future hunters, hikers, fishermen/women, bikers, campers, wildlife photographers, mountain climbers, sportsmen/women and conservationists who will protect our natural resources and recreational lands.

Suddenly, without prior notice, YETI has declined to do business with The NRA Foundation saying they no longer wish to be an NRA vendor, and refused to say why.  They will only say they will no longer sell products to The NRA Foundation.  That certainly isn’t sportsmanlike. In fact, YETI should be ashamed.  They have declined to continue helping America’s young people enjoy outdoor recreational activities.  These activities enable them to appreciate America and enjoy our natural resources with wholesome and healthy
outdoor recreational and educational programs.

The NRA Foundation is 501(c)(3) non-profit, charitable organization.

In this day and age, information is power.  We thought you needed this information.

Key points to notice: suddenly… refused to say why. They jumped to the conclusion that NRA was specifically targeted for exclusion, and began to publicly shame them for it.

Note the phrases:

“Should be ashamed”… “declined to continue helping”… “Isn’t sportsmanlike”.

Those are the phrases that got people PO’d. If that had been the whole story, there would be every reason to be pissed off. But that wasn’t quite on target.

Their Press Release jumped the gun.

That’s the last pun. We promise.

Now, if that was a move like the ‘boycott Laura’ we saw earlier in the year, they might have a point. But that isn’t quite so clear in this instance.

Here is Yeti’s response. Decide for yourself who was the reasonable party in this dust-up.

It reads:

A few weeks ago, YETI notified the NRA Foundation, as well as a number of other organizations, that we were eliminating a group of outdated discounting programs. When we notified the NRA Foundation and the other organizations of this change, YETI explained that we were offering them an alternative customization program broadly available to consumers and organizations, including the NRA Foundation. These facts directly contradict the inaccurate statement of the NRA-ILA distributed on April 20.

Further, the NRA-ILA stated in that same public communication that [YETI has] declined to continue helping America’s young people enjoy outdoor recreational activities.” Nothing is further from the truth. YETI was  founded more than 10 years ago with a passion for the outdoors, and over the course of our history, we have actively and enthusiastically supported hunters, anglers, and the broader outdoor community. We have been devoted to and will continue to directly support causes tied to our passion for the outdoors, including by working with many organizations that promote conservation and management of wildlife resources and habitat restoration. From our website to our film footage and from our social media posts to our ambassadors, YETI has always prominently featured hunters pursuing their passions. Moreover, YETI is unwavering in our belief in and committment to the Constitution of the United States and its Second Amendment.

Still turning your back on YETI?

Or are we going to chalk this one up as a mis-communication?
