Claim: CNN’s Favorite Creepy Porn Lawyer Abused, Threatened Wife

CNN can really pick a winner, can’t they?

Not only have they had to fire people who spun bogus stories, and their ‘religious expert’ went full cannibal on air… (eating human brains, no less, but he thought he had the moral standing to lob insults at Trump), but now the hero that they hitched their anti-Trump hopes to isn’t looking quite so heroic.

The media have fawned over him.

The updated MRC estimate means the Orange County, Calif., attorney is averaging an astonishing two interviews per day. That’s quite a feat for someone who only occasionally has something truly newsworthy to say. And that’s not just me being snide. Most of Avenatti’s appearances involve him merely rehashing the details of a story that first really broke in January.

This hasn’t dampened the press’s appetite for its latest obsession.

Of the 147 appearances clocked by the MRC, 74 of those were with CNN, an accomplishment to which no single member of Congress or the White House can lay claim.

An additional 57 appearances were with MSNBC, where host Lawrence O’Donnell once joked, “Michael Avenatti is becoming my co-host. I’ve got to say.”

More than that, he was mentioned as one of the ‘stars’ at the Correspondent’s dinner. Vanity Fair named him as the guy everyone wanted a selfie with.

So as Hollywood-types, politicos, and hangers-on made their way to the District over the weekend for Saturday night’s White House Correspondents’ Dinner, Avenatti was the selfie-get du jour from the pre-game to the main event. — Vanity Fair

He’s almost certainly the reason Stormy was given the ‘key to the city’ of West Hollywood. (He was in attendance for that ceremony, naturally.)

Is this the face they should really be looking to in their attacks against Trump?

At issues is not just his dubious client — who has been called out for her own failures to support the recent MeToo claims of an employee in a “film” she was directing.

The problem is Michael Avanatti himself. Under oath, his wife has accused him of being abusive.

In a sworn court declaration TheDCNF reviewed, Lisa Storie-Avenatti asked a California court to grant her exclusive use of their marital home after she said her husband threatened and emotionally abused her. Both parties now dispute this account, as they finalize their divorce.

Despite these recent denials, Storie-Avenatti alleged her husband threatened to call the police and get them both arrested, which would cause her to lose custody of their son and put him into the hands of the state’s child protective services.

She has since retracted those claims.

There are two reasonable explanations for why. The innocent one and the sketchy one.

The innocent reason is that she said something out of anger with the intention to hurt him, but later recanted them as something that was unfair and not true.

The other reason is the general tendency of actual victims of domestic abuse to recant.

There’s no universal reason why victims of domestic violence later recant statements against their attackers, but the close relationship between them usually plays a big role in changing the victim’s story. In some situations, it’s the fear of more violence in the future if the attacker is acquitted or the charges are dropped, or even after the attacker spent time behind bars. This fear is especially pronounced when local police and government resources exist to make sure victims are protected when their attackers are released.

Victims may also face external pressure to recant when their attacker plays a significant role in their life or in the life of someone close to them. If, for example, a woman’s abusive husband was the sole source of financial support for her and their children, she may be reluctant to risk his going to jail or prison if it means the family suffers. For these recanting victims, they may consider enduring the abuse as less harmful than being homeless or otherwise abandoned.

We saw in the Weinstein case that particularly powerful and influential people can intimidate people into silence even when they have been victims of legitimate crimes.
