What was he expecting, a parade in his honor?
A restaurant manager in Vancouver made the news by kicking out someone wearing a MAGA hat.
It’s the ‘Left Coast’ of Canada. So maybe he thought he’d be getting the keys to the city or something.
He didn’t. Not even close.
Eva Gates, vice president of operations and human resources for the Sequoia Company of Restaurants, says the capped patron was sitting on the patio at Vancouver’s Teahouse in Stanley Park on Tuesday when the floor manager approached him.
Gates says the manager told the man he had to take off his hat in order to dine at the Teahouse. The patron opted to leave the restaurant instead.
The Teahouse’s website identifies the manager as Darin Hodge.
In a statement, Hodge says he hasn’t changed his mind about his decision.
“I stand by my decision to ask the patron to remove his hat. The MAGA hat has come to symbolize racism, bigotry, Islamophobia, misogyny, white supremacy, homophobia. As a person with a strong moral backbone, I had to take a stand against this guest’s choice of headwear while in my former place of work,” he wrote.
Did you catch that? It was subtle.
“My former place of work.”
This Canadian restaurant manager in a city were American tourism is a BIG revenue source doesn’t mind biting the hand that feeds him in order to regurgitate nonsense hard-left (and CNN/MSNBC news media, but we repeat ourselves) talking points.
The company he USED to work for does not share those views.
Think it had something to do with that YELP score taking a beating?
Yes, the Trump-supporters hammered the restaurant over it…
Hodge, who had been working at the restaurant for 18 months, was fired over the incident by the Sequoia Company—the venture capital group that owns the Teahouse—for violating the business’s “philosophy of tolerance.”
[…] While that seems like it should be the end of the story, it, of course, isn’t because on the internet, nothing is an isolated incident. Once word got out that a man in a MAGA hat was refused service at a restaurant, the Trump backers showed up in full force to the Teahouse’s Yelp page, armed with one-star reviews.
But so did the ‘Resistance’…
In this case, though, the folks who align themselves against Trump also started posting one-star reviews—not for the restaurant kicking out the man in the MAGA hat, but for firing the manager who made the decision to refuse service.
Because everything is political.
The ‘bake the damn cake’ crowd sure don’t mind refusing service to someone who merely offends them.
What’s the moral of the story? If you’re an employee, make sure you know the company has your back before making a move like throwing a customer out.
After all… the customer is profit. The employee is overhead.
It’s simple math.
