Time to Resign? Political Firestorm Rages after CT Official Takes Knee during Pledge

Most Americans who watched as the disrespect for the National Anthem swept through NFL teams like a sickening plague of nauseating disrespect were alarmed and sickened. In reality it was only a matter of time before elected officials picked up where the overpaid and overpriced millionaire football players left off. Recently a Connecticut city official sparked outrage by taking a knee during the Pledge of Allegiance to this time protest President Trump, according to Fox News.

Selectman Melissa Schlag, a Democrat of the town of Haddam, took a knee as her fellow town officials stood and recited the pledge during a July 16 Board of Selectman meeting.

Honestly, to say that this apparent Hillary Clinton, resist-movement inspired Democrat needed a reason to protest the duly elected President of the United States is like saying that a snake needs a reason to attack. It was baked into her unhinged political nature. In her letter posted on Facebook, she actually rambled in a listing of various reasons why she knelt during the pledge.

For Schlag, her laundry list of Trump wrongdoings included such heinous misdeeds as the migrant family separation crisis. Her major complaint zeroed in on the Trump’s comments on Russia’s election meddling during his summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin. No surprise that Democrats like her would use mainstream media and DNC talking points to not acknowledge the pledge. Remember it is in their nature to resist, resist, resist.

As it turns out, patriotism is still valued in her town of Haddam and many residents are offended by her disrespectful antics, Fox 61 reported. Larry Maggi, a fellow selectman is calling for Schlag’s immediate resignation. On Fox & Friends he stated, “A majority of the town and a majority of the people in the area — not even just our town, all towns around us — are very, very upset about it.”

Of course, in a left coast town like Haddam there are supporters of Schlag, according to her. Bet these same people would not openly ask their children to do the same in school. Well one can only hope and pray. Yet, as for this elected official, she will have to contend with an upcoming July 30th meeting, where according to the Hartford Courant, her critics will be on hand. A couple primary critics include, Republican gubernatorial candidate Tim Herbst and Republican candidate for state treasurer Art Linares.

Both are also planning to hold a “stand for the flag” rally outside the Haddam firehouse, where the Selectman board is scheduled to meet. Gubernatorial candidate Herbst, stressed. “It was appalling,” Herbst said. “We all stand in respect for the flag because many people — including my 93-year-old grandfather, who’s a veteran — fought in defense of the very liberties that that flag [represents],” reported Fox News.
