Over the weekend 57 people were shot in Chicago.
Spikes in violent crime seems to have become a pattern for weekends in Chicago.
These numbers follow last weekend where 33 people were shot, 12 of which were just between Saturday morning and Sunday morning. During the first weekend in August, over 70 people were shot, 11 of whom died from their wounds.
That was the weekend of the first Barack Obama Day celebrations, by the way.
Maybe Chicago should tighten up their gun laws.
Oh, wait. Illinois is one of the top 10 states with the most restrictive gun control measures.
This weekend’s violence included shooting a ‘Peace Picnic’ held at Seward Park on Chicago’s North Side.
Three people were shot and another individual was assaulted at a “peace picnic” in Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s (D) Chicago on Saturday night.
Fox News reports the picnic was held “at Seward Park on the city’s North Side,” and advertised as a back-to-school peace event.
Witnesses said the picnic began very peacefully, then “a group of young men” arrived and violence erupted.
The violence came one day after seven individuals were shot in Chicago, including a three-year-old boy.

Mayor Emanuel is calling for more gun control. (Surprise, surprise.) He’s urging Illinois residents to pressure Gov. Bruce Rauner (R) to sign more gun restrictions into law, specifically one aimed at gun trafficking, although such laws already exist.

The men and women in law enforcement that serve and protect us are commendable, but the response time means that they don’t get there when the bullets are flying.
