Dear CNN: Global Terror Attacks Down Under Trump – Is That ‘News?’

Guess what happens when you take a global threat seriously? You start pushing ahead with meaningful solutions.

Trump is not afraid of the term ‘Radical Islamic Terror’.

Obama, on the other hand, never missed a chance to downplay them.  He famously called ISIS ‘jayvee’… before they went on to burn, rape and destroy their way through a large swath of the Middle East. And he was as likely to discuss ‘The Crusades’ as anything done in the name of the “Prophet of the Sword” as his followers call him.

The so-called Caliphate held a controlling presence in an entire region, and the territory they held required foreign liberation. But ISIS knew how to exploit Obama’s rules of engagement to tie the hands of Americans who had them in their sights.

Fast forward to the current administration — how are things going now?

According to a University of Maryland study connected to a research arm of DHS, the numbers WORLDWIDE are looking much, much better.

Would we rather the number of terrorist attacks be exactly ‘zero’?

Of course we would. But failing that, would we be happy to see the trend numbers in decline? That’s certainly a start.

Their numbers for 2017 are lower than 2016. And the fact that ISIS is no longer a true regional power played a real part in that.

The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) was responsible for the most terrorist attacks (1,321) and deaths (7,120) in 2017, though were responsible for 10 percent fewer attacks and 40 percent fewer deaths than in 2016. The Taliban and al-Shabaab were the next most active with 907 attacks (4,925 deaths) and 573 attacks (1894 deaths) respectively.

Who is that good news for? Everybody, to some extent. They had a habit of projecting their power into target nations around the world, so a drop in those numbers is good news to those of us in the West.

But who were the BIGGEST beneficiaries?

The biggest benefits would go to the countries most severely affected by terror attacks.

Muslim countries – namely Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Syria, and, to a lesser extent, India, especially New Delhi-controlled Kashmir – are home to the vast majority of terrorist attacks and deaths across the world

For all the bluster about how Trump ‘hates brown people’, here’s an uncomfortable fact for the ‘haters’.

Even Muslim countries are now better off because of Trump’s aggressive stance toward ISIS, and having a Commander-In-Chief who does not insist on micromanaging every aspect of engagement with the enemy.

That’s what happens when you have a President who doesn’t make imaginary red lines he has no intention of enforcing.

That’s what happens when a President doesn’t kiss the ass of some imaginary ‘International Community’.

That’s what happens when we stop ‘leading from behind’, and start leading … period.

It’s good for America… and what’s good for America is — in the process — good for the world, too.

So much winning.
