The Evidence Is Clear: Democrats Disrespect Law Enforcement

The midterm elections are less than one hundred days away. There is already a lot of hype and speculation that the Democrats are going to ride a “blue wave” to topple the Republicans and hamper President Trump’s ability to accomplish his agenda. Among the many reasons why this should not happen is that the Democrats have become the party of lawlessness. They seem to recoil from law and order and many times go as far as hating law enforcement officials.

Meredith Warren, in a Boston Globe article from February of 2016 writes about Democrats bashing police in the run up to the election, “Bernie Sanders and fellow Democrats take it a step too far by demonizing police to make a broader case against a system that is rigged against common citizens.”

The Left’s attacks on law enforcement didn’t start in the election, however. President Barack Obama and his administration opened the door to distrust and despicable acts toward law enforcement. Politico, in July of 2016, reports an interview William Johnson, the executive director of the National Association of Police Organizations, did with Fox News. Johnson asserts that the Obama administration’s inability to condemn violence against police and their continual appeasement of groups that perpetrate it has led to a “blame the police” attitude that has allowed a climate of violence to escalate.

The Left’s vile attitude toward law enforcement has continued. In August of last year, The Detroit News ran an article describing tensions between police officers and the community. In a stunning and revealing statement, Kenneth Reed, spokesman for the Detroit Coalition Against Police Brutality, scoffed at the suggestion there’s a war on cops. He asserted, “There’s a war on the citizenry by law enforcement.”

The Left’s disdain toward law enforcement has lately added a new element. The Democrats demonize and want to eliminate the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement commonly known as ICE. ICE’s mission is to protect America from the cross-border crime and illegal immigration that threaten national security and public safety. There was a time in America when all of us would agree that ICE serves a valuable purpose. Not now and not among the Left.

Abolishing ICE is prominently featured on the platform championed by Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, the 28-year-old Socialist-Democrat who may find her way into the House of Representatives this fall. In late June of this year, Rep. Mark Pocan, a Wisconsin Democrat, introduced a bill in the House that would abolish ICE. Senators Kirsten Gillibrand and Elizabeth Warren have joined the “Abolish ICE” chorus along with New York City mayor Bill de Blasio.

The Left’s entertainment wing has chimed in as well. Actress Cynthia Nixon called the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency a “terrorist organization,” and the ubiquitous Michelle Wolf portrayed ICE agents on her Netflix show as terrorists. The Democrats’ hate of law and order has never been more visible seen than it is right now.

The Democrats, not satisfied to espouse an attitude of ingratitude toward those who serve and protect, are now claiming that entire cities are above the law. The “cool thing” for Democrats is to be a “Sanctuary City”. In the broad sense, a sanctuary city is a city (or a county, or a state) that limits its cooperation with federal immigration enforcement agents to protect low-priority immigrants from deportation, while still turning over those who have committed serious crimes.

Despite pressure from the Trump administration, there remain hundreds of sanctuary cities across the United States. San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York and recently Philadelphia have joined in the process of keeping law and order more difficult. Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney’s celebratory dance upon hearing of a favorable court ruling regarding the city’s sanctuary status has become a sensation among Democrats.

Just a quick pause and reflect moment. Democrats dance in celebration of illegals being able to thrive and law enforcement being hindered in doing their jobs. What a crazy, upside down approach. It would be comical, I suppose, if it weren’t tragic and real. According to the FBI, 118 Law enforcement officers were killed in 2016 with 66 of them being killed as a result of criminal acts. This was up a shocking 25 from the previous year! The number decreased a bit in 2017 when 93 law enforcement officers died in the line of duty in 2017, with 46 being killed because of criminal acts.
Though respect for law enforcement is better than it was, too many officers are hurt and killed.

ICE agents are also under pressure and attack. Not long ago, actor Peter Fonda called on his Twitter followers to target Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in large-scale protests by surrounding their homes and children’s schools. How long will it be before some left-wing lunatic attacks an ICE agent? Will you dance then, Mayor Kenney?

What can we do about this mockery? It isn’t hard. We have to win. We must be mobilized and vote in November and in 2020. We’ve made progress in re-establishing law and order. It can all be lost if we let the Democrats and the hateful attitude toward law and order win. No Democrat will tell you he or she is against law enforcement. They will try to hide it behind flags and platitudes. Don’t fall for it. Actions speak louder than words.
