Activists take over an intersection in Portland on Saturday, and the cops do nada. What happened to the rule of law?
Well, it is Portland — the same place that, in June, had a tent city pop up on federal land by Occupy ICE to protest against the President’s enforcement of border control laws. A local Fox reporter said that authorities called the site a ‘biohazard’ and hired private contractors to clean up the mess that was left behind.
So, extremist protesting seems par for the course in Portland. How very ‘green’ of them, too.
This one gets a little weird, though.
Several videos by a ‘citizen journalist’ were published to social media showing the heated confrontations between the protesters and the people just trying to go about their day.
Activists were filmed shouting ‘white supremacist’ and ‘whitey’ at one driver, before another video showed marchers attacking a man’s car as he tried to make his way through a crowd of people in the road.
Andy C Ngo, a Portland resident and reporter, vented his frustration with the marchers on Twitter, describing them as Antifa and adding: ‘This is the type of street anarchy that routinely happens where I live.’
The protesters had blocked off an intersection and were directing traffic to go around their protest.
Andy Ngo has identified the group as Antifa, likely because of the ‘black bloc’ tactics and their faced covered. It is clear that there were those present that endorsed the Black Lives Matter movement.
These confrontations are unreal.
In one, a woman tells a driver to go in the direction that she tells him to and when he asks why, she says because she told him to. When he doesn’t think that that’s a good enough reason, she implores him to move because he’s — get this — ‘blocking traffic.’ Guess what? He doesn’t think that’s a great answer. But then, a big white dude walks up and calls the guy in the car ‘whitey’ and a ‘white supremacist’ because he has North Carolina plates.
Unreal.

“Driver Or Victim”, is it? Have we adopted the habit, now of classifying aggressors as ‘victims’? Not only was he NOT trying to get out of the way of the car, he was trying to illegally detain him.
KOIN reports that the man that was driving the car did indeed file a police report because there was over $3000 damage done to his car. Portland police confirmed that a report was made. The local news station also states that the protester in front of the car was trying to ‘lift up the front end’ while the driver was trying to get out of the area.
But other than taking the man’s report, Portland police were ‘monitoring’ the situation from a distance but didn’t intervene because they were protecting the rights of the protesters.
Police officers were monitoring the protest but say they did not intervene in order to protect the rights of the protesters.
A police statement said officers ‘weigh the ability for people to gather to practice their First Amendment rights to freedom of speech and assembly, as well as the impact it places on the rest of the Portland community.
‘Throughout this event the police bureau was monitoring the crowd.’

So, what were these protesters doing in the street anyway? They were protesting what they say is the racially-motivated shooting of an innocent black man, Patrick Kimmons, who was a father of three.
Kimmons, 27, was shot and killed by two Portland police officers on September 30 who responded to the sound of gunfire.
The officers say they saw muzzle flashes as they arrived at the scene before Kimmons turned towards them holding what they say was a gun.
Both officers opened fire, hitting Kimmons. He was taken to hospital but later died of his injuries.
Kimmons’ family say he was shot 10 to 15 times in the back and was unarmed, but police say both officers fired less than 10 times in total.
Officers say that five guns were recovered from the scene, including one near Kimmons’ body, and that two people later arrived at a nearby hospital with gunshot wounds, which they believe were caused in the brawl.
