BOOM: Trump Ends Food Stamps For Able Bodied Americans

What Congress didn’t have the guts to do in law, Trump will be doing himself.

While so many news people were fixated on whether the government would shut down or not, Congress passed a very sizable Farm Aid bill.

One thing was NOT addressed in that bill, however. Food Stamps eligibility for the able-bodied. Since they weren’t up for it, the President is addressing that issue another way.

Trump drew attention to the farm bill in an unexpected way. He tweeted a video.

He had a little fun at his own expense.

Because Tyrannical Despots are universally known for laughing at their own expense, right?

Congress rejected a push by House Republicans to impose stricter work requirements on food stamp recipients in the farm bill, thwarting Trump on the only proposal he publicly backed while the legislation was being negotiated.

But as Trump signed the five-year bill at the White House on Thursday, he smoothed over the legislative setback on food stamps by touting a new rule from the Agriculture Department that aims to more strictly enforce existing work requirements under the program, now called the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program.

“Today’s action will help Americans transition from welfare to gainful employment, strengthening families and uplifting communities,” Trump said. “That was a difficult thing to get done, but the farmers wanted it done. We all wanted it done. I think, in the end, it’s going to make a lot of people very happy.”

…The proposed rule USDA released on Thursday would make it more difficult for states to seek waivers from existing SNAP work requirements for able-bodied adults who aren’t caring for children or other dependents — a move that delivers a piece of what House Republicans had sought in their bill.

No, it’s not end-of-the-world stuff for people in legitimate need. It’s the able-bodied that will need to get up off their ass and earn a living like the rest of us.

And in an economy with unemployment hitting record lows and employers now jockeying for the available workforce… what possible reason is there to object that able-bodied people get out and earn a living?

This is really win-win. Even those who oppose this action will help serve the larger purpose. It’s really quite clever.

Congress isn’t making this change. An unelected administrative body (in this case, the USDA) will be doing so. They will be making a change at the stroke of a pen that will impact our national bottom line by possibly billions of dollars.

Anyone who seriously opposes that will have to make changes that strengthen Congress and weaken the Administrative (Deep) State’s unchecked power.

Something like that just might force Congress to start caring about what laws are passed again. They might even have to start reading bills before passing them.
