Pigskin Pundits Week 17 Picks:
Here comes the big finale, and in true fulfillment of Pete Rozelle’s dream for parity, this week matters to fully half the league, as playoff entrants and seedings will be decided literally in the eleventh hour. After several disastrous weeks of picks, order returned to my universe and I went 12-4 last week, now at 130-81 for the season (62%). For those about to lock, we salute you. Here we go!
Dolphins at Bills – The Bills ruined all the Pats’ bettors last week while Miami wilted before Jacksonville, but the Dolphins have one road win left in them.
Falcons at Bucs – In a who-cares game, Jameis puts the “win” in Winston. Pirates’ booty.
Cowboys at Giants – Dallas can’t improve or downgrade their position, but who wants to be the 9-7 division champs? Still, they are horrible on the road. Giants rise to lay Dallas low.
Panthers at Saints – Christian McCaffrey starts at QB for Carolina, as the Saints go marching on.
Jets at Patriots – Feisty Jets try to say bye-bye to the bye, but NE stands Pat. Fire the muskets!
Jaguars at Texans – Houston let the Eagles rattle them last week, but these Jaguars are stuffed. Texans hang another pelt.
Lions at Packers – The Lions could be snow leopards and STILL not win at cold Lambeau field. Yellow and Gold holds, while Detroit folds in the cold.
Eagles at Redskins – Philly gets into the playoffs. Anything can happen now.
Chargers at Broncos – Denver used to be a tough place to win. But now a Rivers runs (and throws) through it. Chargers charge to the finish line.
Raiders at Chiefs – Nice road win for Carr & Co. last week, but this is Mahomes at home and it matters. Raiders get stranded when Carr gets a flat.
Bears at Vikings – Purple People find themselves outside, looking in the window at Philly’s shiny new wild card.
Browns at Raven – Fun game! The new Browns against the old new Browns, with a division title on the line for Baltimore. Ravens tell Cleveland “Nevermore”.
Niners at Rams – This Golden State tilt has many thinking trap game for LA, but there’s a bye to be gained. Rams stay focused.
Bengals at Steelers – Cincy would love to hand the hated Steelers an early exit. I just can’t see them containing Smith-Schuster and AB for 60 minutes. Tigers join Tiger on the golf course Monday.
Cardinals at Seahawks – Seattle punched their ticket – now they’ll punch the Cardinals. The league’s oldest head coach looks young again.
Colts at Titans – The best game has been saved for last, in this “Win and you’re in” matchup
late Sunday. It’s no coincidence that a team with horseshoes on their helmets has Luck for a QB. Reich rides his ponies into the playoffs.
