Running her mouth like this, does anyone seriously miss this ‘classy lady’ yet?
What a pair they were. She thinks a lot of herself, and he thinks of himself a lot. But of course, it’s his ‘skin color’ that irritates us.
No, it couldn’t be his policy, his ‘legacy’ or his contempt for the very people he was elected to represent. Nah. Not that.
And Michelle Obama is back in the news. This time, it’s because she took time out of telling us how important she is to tell us how dumb the other important people are. (Relative to her own towering intellect, anyway.)
No, this isn’t The Onion or some other parody site. She did actually say that.
Speaking during a sold-out talk with Nigerian author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie in London earlier this month, the former first lady said:
“I have been at probably every powerful table that you can think of. I have worked at nonprofits, I have been at foundations, I have worked in corporations, served on corporate boards, I have been at G-summits, I have sat in at the U.N.: They are not that smart.

She addressed criticism of her own intellect that was leveled against the thesis she had written by no less a critic than Hitchens:
“He tore into the college-age me, suggesting that I’d been unduly influenced by black radical thinkers and furthermore was a crappy writer,” Obama explained in her book.
“‘To describe it as hard to read would be a mistake,’ he wrote. ‘The thesis cannot be “read” at all, in the strict sense of the verb. This is because it wasn’t written in any known language.'”
Obama said she felt the criticism, which she described as “small-minded and ludicrous,” painted her as “so foreign that even my language couldn’t be recognized.” She also felt it “mocked my intellect” and that Hitchens’s marginalizing of her young self “carried with it a larger dismissiveness.”

Can she not even hear herself? She is saying that dismissing her intellect as scarcely abecedarian is ‘petty’ in the very same interview that she has done precisely the same thing with people at ‘every powerful table you can think of’. She must literally believe she is the smartest person in the room.
Truth is… Hitchens wasn’t being mean or dismissive. It was much worse than that. He was being honest.
