Some will see this story as a reason to carry. Others will see echoes of the boldness of First-Century Christianity.
We live in a generation that cries out for ‘authenticity’, probably because we live in a world that’s crowded with phonies. So it’s important to point out and celebrate the genuine article when we see it.
The common complaint against Christians is that too many of us are “all talk and no action”. We don’t actually LIVE by the values we claim to represent. In many cases, that criticism is unfortunately all-too fair.
But good luck saying that about Jared Plesec, a 21-year-old youth worker from Ohio’s Salvation Army.
At the tender age of 21, he followed the footsteps of men like Jim Elliot in quite literally dying for his faith. And, unlike Jim Elliot, Jared didn’t even have to leave the country to do it.
“Jared was an employee (youth worker) and church member of The Salvation Army Temple Corps Community Center in Collinwood. Jared died as he lived, sharing God’s love. Jared passed away in full Salvation Army uniform with his Bible in hand leaving home on his day off to volunteer at The Salvation Army’s Red Kettle,” The Salvation Army said in a statement, as reported by WKYC.com.
…Police have arrested 27-year-old William Jones in connection with the murder. Jones reportedly went on a carjacking crime spree after killing Plesec, before being captured in Lakewood.
The suspect has been charged with aggravated murder, grand theft auto and fleeing and eluding.
Witnesses said that Jones killed Plesec as he was sharing the Bible with him, Fox 8 News reported.
Plesec, who was also a Bible study teacher, was described as smart, sweet, and full of faith, with mourners stating that he would forgive his killer.

ClashDaily has made the argument for the value of the Second Amendment and self-defense countless times.
In this case, we will take a different approach.
In a generation where it’s so very easy to justify cowardice and compromise, we will celebrate the courage of someone fearlessly sharing the good news of the gospel without working the angles to decided whether he was someone it would be ‘safe’ to talk to Jesus about.
Let’s not forget, that before the Apostle Paul WAS the Apostle Paul he was Saul, a persecutor of the Church. He thought he was doing God a favor by killing Christians, or dragging them off in chains.
Stephen, the First Christian martyr (the word means ‘witness) proclaimed the gospel in front of Saul and others without concern for his own safety. They stoned Stephen to death, with Saul’s approval. That same Saul eventually became one of the most powerful voices for proclaiming the gospel, ever. He even wrote a great portion of the New Testament.
Before we shake our heads and say ‘what a waste’ to the live Jarod laid down for his faith, let’s first admit that we don’t know (and probably never will) exactly what ‘ripple effects’ this one act of courage may project into the future.
What lives it might change for the better…
What difference those changed lives may make in the big picture…
After all, a preacher once proclaimed that same gospel in a small rural gathering in the Prairies. Who could have possibly expected that the one life touched by that preacher’s message would go on to become the legendary Billy Graham?
In the words of another lion of the faith:
“Give me one hundred men who fear nothing but sin and desire nothing but God, and I care not whether they be clergyman or laymen, they alone will shake the gates of Hell and set up the kingdom of Heaven upon the earth.” —from a letter in the Works of John Wesley
If you have been praying for God to make a change in the world around us, are you ready to act when he calls upon YOU?

Rules For Radical Christians is not a survival devotional designed to help the young Christian adult limp through life. Rather, it is a road-tested, dominion blueprint that will equip the young adult with leadership skills and sufficient motivation to rise to a place of influence in an overtly non-Christian culture. Rules For Radical Christians gives the reader the keys to become strategically equipped to move into an anti-theistic environment and effectively influence it for the glory of God.
