Britney Spears Checks Into ‘Mental Health Facility’ – Here’s The 411

The songstress will be taking a month away to process what has been happening in her life.

Britney Spears isn’t dealing with her father’s health issues very well, so she’s seeking treatment.

Her father, Jamie Spears, has been quite ill since January when his colon ruptured and had to undergo emergency surgery. He hasn’t bounced back to full health and his daughter Britney is quite distraught.

Spears and her dad are quite close.

The 37-year-old singer has been left distraught over Jamie Spears’ worsening health, which last month forced her to put her Las Vegas residency on hold to be by his side.

The specifics of his condition are not yet clear, however it is understood his colon ruptured in January which required a lifesaving operation and since then he has failed to return to full health.

This has reportedly has been struggling to cope with the mental strain and will spend a month at the unspecified health facility, TMZ report.

Spears had posted a reminder on Instagram to ‘take time for yourself’ before checking herself into an ‘all-encompassing wellness’ facility.

Spears has also been waxing nostalgic on Instagram, posting old photos from her early days in the music business, as well as some family photos.

She announced on Instagram that she was canceling her show in order to focus on her family.

A source told US Magazine:

‘Britney was distraught when her dad first got sick,’ the insider explains.

‘Then there was a period where she was handling it better and feeling more positive because Jamie seemed to be improving, but then his condition worsened and she couldn’t emotionally handle the thought of potentially losing him.

‘It was her breaking point.’

It’s not surprising that Spears is taking it hard. It’s difficult to face losing a parent, especially one that has always been a lifeline.

This isn’t the first time that Spears has had to seek treatment for mental health issues.

Spears spent time in and out of a Malibu rehab center in 2007 because of a breakdown following her divorce from Kevin Federline, with whom she had two children. During the meltdown, Spears was photographed attacking a car with an umbrella and she shaved her head in front of the media. She was committed to the psychiatric ward of Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center and put on 5150 involuntary psychiatric hold. In the wake of that incident, Federline was given sole custody of their sons. Spears was also placed on permanent conservatorship, meaning her father along with attorney, Andrew Wallet, were given complete control of her assets. In 2008, she again sought treatment before being hospitalized at L.A.’s Cedars-Sinai Medical Center for being under the influence.

It just goes to show you that you can’t put people on pedestals and envy their cushy lives — you just never know the whole story. They struggle with life just like the rest of us do.

No life is Instagram-perfect.

Godspeed, Britney.
