The gauntlet has officially been dropped. If New York and Vermont have the right to go ‘all in’… Alabama and others are more than willing to push the other direction.
Sorry Leftists, with that ‘lock’ on the Supreme Court finally broken, the ‘ratchet effect’ of using the courts to push your social agendas on one direction (and one direction only) can finally be put to an end.
So, what aspects of the law have the baby-killing industry in an uproar? Pretty much the whole law offends them, but there are a few key points that stick in their craw.
And, contrary to Alyssa Milano’s fever-dream propaganda, nobody is going to jail for a miscarriage. No moms are being thrown into a paddywagon.
The legal penalties aren’t for THEM. The legal consequences are for the ones who swore a Hippocratic oath.
After several hours of contentious debate Tuesday evening, Alabama politicians overwhelmingly passed House Bill 314, the “Human Life Protection Act,” 74 to 3, pushing the bill forward to the state Senate. Of the state’s 105 representatives, 28 refused to vote after Republicans blocked the rape and incest amendment.
If passed into law, the legislation would criminalize abortion, classifying it as a Class A felony in Alabama. That means that a doctor caught performing abortions in the state would face up to 99 years in prison under the proposed law.
“The heart of this bill is to confront a decision that was made by the courts in 1973 that said the baby in the womb is not a person,” said Representative Terri Collins, the bill’s sponsor, during the debate. “This bill addresses that one issue. Is that baby in the womb a person? I believe our law says it is.” [emphasis added] Source: CBS
Whether the baby is a person or not is the hinge on which everything else turns.
If that baby is a person, he or she has the same right to Life, Liberty and Happiness as the rest of us… and the same protections under law. The conditions (sometimes horrific) under which they were conceived do not make them any less of a person.
If a medical professional were caught using his position to end the life of a five-year-old, he would face serious criminal charges. Likely MORE serious than what some punk on the street might face if he did the same thing.
Any attempted use of his medical license as a justification to end that life would be a strike against him, not a mitigating factor in his defense.
That’s the rationale behind the stiff criminal charges on the books for doctors practicing abortion. And they ARE stiff, there’s no question about that. That’s how ‘deterrence’ works.

This law will be challenged. Of course it will. And then it will go to the Supreme Court.
And that is exactly the point. How ironic that Planned Parenthood, Hollywood, and a bevy of Leftist activist groups will be the ones demanding to be heard by SCOTUS. How much MORE ironic if that same case topples the original Roe v. Wade ruling.
