Big Government Loves Men To Be Wussies
America was launched by lions, rowdy rebels rallying around a righteous cause. Whose hands have we entrusted it to today?
One of the greatest dangers of a free people is, ironically, success. Way back in in the Wilderness, Moses warned Israel about it before handing off leadership to Joshua:
“And when the Lord your God brings you into the land that he swore to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give you—with great and good cities that you did not build, and houses full of all good things that you did not fill, and cisterns that you did not dig, and vineyards and olive trees that you did not plant—and when you eat and are full, then take care lest you forget the Lord, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery. Deuteronomy 6
The good life can lull us into complacency, cause us to let our guard down, and lead us right back into a thousand different varieties of slavery.
We were different from other nations who bent their knee to an ‘elite’ ruling class.
“We must not confuse dissent with disloyalty. We must remember always that accusation is not proof and that conviction depends upon evidence and due process of law. We will not walk in fear, one of another. We will not be driven by fear into an age of unreason, if we dig deep in our history and our doctrine, and remember that we are not descended from fearful men – not from men who feared to write, to speak, to associate, and to defend causes that were, for the moment, unpopular”
― Edward R. Murrow
Have we honored the sacrifice of our forbears by keeping the flame of freedom alive in America?
Or have we, like some spoiled rich heiress, squandered that great inheritence, and sold off our freedoms one by one in exchange for creature comforts?
Esau traded his birthright for a pot of stew, and when he came to regret it, it was already too late.
Are we willing to defend OUR birthright while there is still some semblance of it left? We didn’t say it would be EASY… just that it was the right thing to do.
Will we take that stand? Or will we be an entire generation of which our forfathers would say, along with Samuel Adams:
If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen.
Ouch.
That’ll leave a mark. So what’ll it be?
Wave the white flag to the slow erosion of liberty, or cowboy up and take a stand?
