WATCH: Occasional-Cortex Is Upset That Her Salary Won’t Be Increased To $178,500 — ‘It’s Not Even Like A Raise’
When her fellow Congressional Democrats pulled the bill that would give themselves a pay increase, AOC seemed pretty upset. Poor baby!
On Monday, Congressional Democrat leaders canceled the vote on a bill that would have given a salary increase to lawmakers for the first time since 2009. The Congressional Dems faced backlash from both Republicans and Democrats on the proposal which would have increased salaries to lawmakers by $4500. Currently, Members of the House make $174,000 annually, but those with official leadership titles and responsibilities make more.
An increase of $4500 might be a simple “cost of living increase” for AOC, but that would be a whopping 13.8 percent raise for someone earning the median U.S. income of $62,175 according to the June 2018 numbers. Could you imagine waking up to a (nearly) 14 percent raise?
I know I could. Mama needs a new pair of shoes!
Just kidding. I’ve got three kids and two are teenage boys.
Yep, that’s more like it. (Sigh)
Seriously, $4500 a year ain’t nothing to sneeze at, despite her claim that it’s just an increase for the “cost of living.”
Maybe it’s the rent for her luxury apartment that’s straining AOC’s resources. You know, those luxury apartments that she railed against before she got elected? The ones that have the mysterious and terrifying garbage disposals. Yeah, those.
She’s responded to the criticism of her new digs by arguing that luxury apartments like the one she lives in should be a “basic right.”
Speaking of responding to criticism, Rep. Ocasio-Cortez took to the Twitters to complain about the nixing of the “cost of living increase.”
Yep. Voting against cost of living increases for members of Congress may sound nice, but doing so only increases pressure on them to keep dark money loopholes open.
This makes campaign finance reform *harder.*
ALL workers deserve cost of living increases, incl min wage workers. https://t.co/fCdgHKx4G1
— Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (@AOC) June 11, 2019
It’s not a fun or politically popular position to take. But consistency is important.
ALL workers should get cost of living increases. That’s why minimum wage should be pegged to inflation, too.
Voting against cost of living increases is 1 reason why dark $ loopholes stay open.
— Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (@AOC) June 11, 2019
She also spoke to members of the Media(D) about her thoughts (such as they are).
AOC called the move “superficial” and said that the pay raise wasn’t a real pay raise because it was a “cost of living adjustment.” She said, “Members of Congress, retail workers, everybody should get a cost of living increases to accommodate for the changes in our economy.”
What changes in the economy could that be, I wonder?
AOC’s concern is the temptation for politicians to turn to “dark money” and lobbying. If the reports are true, she’d know quite a bit about “dark money” operations.
Watch her talk to reporters here:
Ocasio-Cortez, who makes $174,000, says she needs a raise like minimum wage workers: “Congress, retail workers, everybody should get cost of living increases to accommodate for changes in our economy”
On the $4,500 raise she wants: “It’s not even like a raise”

Isn’t it funny how Socialists (“Democratic” or otherwise) get really antsy when it comes to their money? They’re cool with taking your money, but heaven forbid that you keep them from lining their own pockets.
Despite AOC’s claim that she’s fighting for “cost of living increases” for everyone, you know that there are some people that she would exclude.
Like the President.
And his kids.
Would she be fighting for raises for business owners like Jeff Bezos and Mark Zuckerberg? They work, don’t they? Do they need “cost of living increases,” too?
I’m thinking that those folks would be mysteriously excluded in her noble quest for “cost of living increases” for all.
Incidentally, AOC embraces Modern Monetary Theory which says that countries with their own currency don’t really need to worry about debt because they can just print more money and it’s no biggie.
Yeah, that’s working well in Venezuela right now, isn’t it? Printing more money devalues the currency and contributes to hyperinflation.
Frankly, this young lady makes more sense than the real AOC.

Well, she is certainly more adorable!
Don’t get me wrong, though. I want AOC to continue speaking. As long as she does, she makes my job easy.
