Bogus Racism Charges

Aesop wrote a story about a boy who cried wolf. A shepherd boy, while tending his sheep, repeatedly tricks nearby villagers into thinking wolves are attacking his flock. When a wolf does appear and the boy again calls for help, the villagers believe that it is another false alarm and the sheep are eaten by the wolf. In later versions of the story, the boy, himself, is eaten. The Library of Congress version of the story ends with these words, “Liars are not believed even when they speak the truth.”

The Democrats and their media allies have, lately, taken the role of the boy who cried wolf regarding charges of racism. They’ve become adroit at crying racism at every turn and tweet of the president, though it is not at all clear that any of them are racist.

Jonathan Chait, in a wild generalization, wrote in the New York Intelligencer, “Trump has decided the answer to ‘how I spent my summer vacation’ will be sending racist tweets, primarily because that was the thing that he felt like doing at those moments.”

What Chait references, first, are the tweets made not long ago about “The Squad.” You remember that, don’t you? The president tweeted on July 14, 2019, “Why don’t they go back and help fix the totally broken and crime infested places from which they came. Then come back and show us how….”

That was one of the thread of tweets in which the president mentioned “The Squad.” In none of the president’s tweets is there any mention of race. The media has disingenuously focused in on the two words “go back.” While I understand that at some point in time, those words in a particular context could lead to a racist thought, there is no way that is the case with respect to these tweets. The president is an equal opportunity counterpuncher. He does not distinguish between male or female or race when it comes to fighting back. While the Democrats and media want to claim racism, they have no concrete proof of it. It is another cry of “Wolf.”

The latest “cry” comes from a twitter battle between the president and Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-MD). After Cummings attacked the president yet again, about the border crisis, the president hammered back. He commented Cummings “has been a brutal bully, shouting and screaming at the great men & women of Border Patrol about conditions at the Southern Border, when actually his Baltimore district is FAR WORSE and more dangerous. His district is considered the Worst in the USA.” He followed that tweet with two more, both of them bitterly attacking Cummings. However, as it was with The Squad, never once did he mention race.

That, though, did not stop the Democrats and the media from crying racism. Vox ran a full article decrying the president’s racist history. Democrats, Nancy Pelosi, The Squad, Chris Van Hollen and others couldn’t tweet out fast enough their outrage over the president’s perceived racism.

The truth is, though, they are simply wrong. It is not racist to attack a representative, white or black, for the conditions of his/her district. Rep. Cummings has been around a long time. He knows that to attack this president is to invite a counterpunch. There is, again, nothing racial about it. Mick Mulvaney has it right. As he told the Los Angeles Times, “Trump’s tweets were simply a reaction to what he considers to be inaccurate statements by Cummings.”

Why is this such a big deal? The Democrats and their media allies are disingenuous. They cry “racism” at nearly everything the president or his supporters do, but they rarely see racism in their own ranks.

The Hill reports, “Rep. Ayanna Pressley (D-Mass.) reportedly said Democrats don’t need ‘any more black faces that don’t want to be a black voice’ during a liberal Netroots Nation conference, a comment that comes as racial politics threaten to divide the party.” I don’t recall anyone rising to object to the fact that people of color might have differing opinions, do you?

Brian Flood, in a Fox News blog, wrote, “ABC News’ ‘The View’ host Joy Behar declared that Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh is ‘probably guilty’ of decades-old sexual assault allegations and slammed ‘old, white men’ in the Senate Judiciary Committee.”

Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) and “Squad” member and a proponent of the BDS — Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions — movement aimed at putting economic and political pressure on Israel over its treatment of Palestinians, tweeted earlier this year that money was driving U.S. politicians to defend Israel. “It’s all about the Benjamins baby.”

Rep. Omar was gently rebuked for what was alleged to be anti-Semitic remarks. Do you recall anyone calling out Joy Behar or any other Democrat or liberal media member on racism charges? Unlike the president, the Left introduces race into the issue and is rarely called out for it. It’s a double standard that the American people recognize.

Here’s the truth as I see it. The Left uses the “race card” as a dog whistle to what they think are their constituents. They assume that people of color won’t recognize what is racism unless they are told. Makes you wonder who really are the racists, doesn’t it?
