Satan Loves It When We Compare Ourselves To ‘Worse Sinners’

Written by Doug Giles on July 4, 2019

It’s easy to find someone whose faults are more ‘obvious’ than your hidden ones… and VERY dangerous.

“Thank you that I am not as other men… like this tax collector”.

It’s easy to call him out for that… until you realize you’re doing exactly the same thing.

The danger is that we set ourselves as the measurement of proper living. Someone whose life outshines ours might be ‘too much’, a ‘legalist’ or a ‘zealot’.

Someone who’s been bolder in acting upon the same sins we are privately drawn to is WORSE than us.

Where’s Jesus in that comparison? Nowhere.

And that’s the point. If our eyes are on ourselves and our brother, and NOT on Jesus, El Diablo already has us on the ropes and we don’t even know it.

But when we compare ourselves to the risen Christ and His Word, his Holy Spirit can actually work on our hearts and start to fix what’s broken in us.

If we don’t really think we don’t need fixing, we’ve robbed ourselves of the work of the Word in our hearts.

And if you think that not much is riding on this — wait until we get to point three.

Sit down. Strap on a helmet. Dig in… to the glory of God.

It’ll do your soul good.

Rules For Radical Christians is not a survival devotional designed to help the young Christian adult limp through life. Rather, it is a road-tested, dominion blueprint that will equip the young adult with leadership skills and sufficient motivation to rise to a place of influence in an overtly non-Christian culture. Rules For Radical Christians gives the reader the keys to become strategically equipped to move into an anti-theistic environment and effectively influence it for the glory of God.
