WATCH: Mario Lopez Says, Letting A KID Choose Gender Is DANGEROUS

Written by K. Walker on July 30, 2019

***UPDATE***

July 31, 2019.

The wokescolds got to him.

He was shamed by the Bluecheckmark Lefties on Twitter including this “expert” from QueerEye.

In a statement to CNN, Lopez walked back his comments.

“The comments I made were ignorant and insensitive, and I now have a deeper understanding of how hurtful they were,” Lopez said in a statement to CNN. “I have been and always will be an ardent supporter of the LGBTQ community, and I am going to use this opportunity to better educate myself. Moving forward I will be more informed and thoughtful.”

What he said was actually uncontroversial.

It’s a position that some trans individuals agree with.

It’s disappointing that he caved.

***END UPDATE***

It looks like not everyone in Hollywood is a progressive, intersectional wokescold.

Have you noticed that it isn’t always the über-famous Caucasian stars that are coming out as Republican? (With apologies to über-famous Caucasians, Jon Voight and James Woods.)

It seems that there is a conservative tilt to some of the younger, visible minorities who made their name in Hollywood with silly productions aimed at teens and young adults. Like former tv-Superman, Dean Cain, Clueless star, Stacey Dash, and, apparently Saved By the Bell alum, Mario Lopez. Three actors supporting Republicans doesn’t exactly make it a trend, but in the near-uniformity of anti-GOP Hollywood, it’s interesting to note.

Lopez was recently on Candace Owens’ Prager University podcast to discuss what it’s like to be a Mexican-American Republican in Hollywood.

One of the topics that they discussed was how Lopez handles parenting his kids when his parenting style differs from his Hollywood neighbors. Top of the list was Charlize Theron raising her son as a girl.

Look at how the Daily Mail frames the interview:

Mario Lopez says he doesn’t understand parents letting their children transition genders.

Lopez, 45, appeared on The Candace Owens Show last month, and the two spoke about what Owens described as a ‘weird trend’ coming out of Hollywood, citing Charlize Theron’s upbringing of her seven-year-old daughter Jackson, who identifies as a transgender girl.

That’s not precisely what Lopez was saying, though. Lopez appears to hold to the view that was held by the entire mental health field until about 5 seconds ago — the approach of “watch and wait.”

See this article in the left-leaning Vancouver Sun from 2018:

A key reason many mental health specialists urge great caution in supporting gender switches is that many children grow out of their feelings.

One study of girls with gender dysphoria, a broad term for those who want to change their sex, was lead by the University of Toronto’s Kelley Drummond. The team followed 25 Canadian girlsdiagnosed with gender dysphoria (at the average age of eight) and found, when the girls grew into their early twenties, only 12 per cent still identified with another gender.

While some transgender activists write off such studies as “bad science,” most therapists, at the least, urge parents to allow children years to monitor their emotions and choices. “A lot of adults who do eventually decide to transition do in fact feel a whole lot better about themselves,” said Bradley. But it’s rarely wise, she says, for most people, especially the young, to rush into a new gender.

Just months after that article, however, the standard switched to “affirmative care” which is the approach embraced by many leftists including Theron.

ClashDaily reported on Theron’s assertion that she is raising her 7-year old son as a girl because he told her that he was one when he was 3.

In the segment, Owens says that although she isn’t a parent, she did work as a nanny for five years and finds it astonishing that parents would allow young children to choose their gender. She says that young children say and believe lots of ridiculous things. She tells a story about one incident when she caught one of her young charges as he jumped off the stairs because he said that he could fly like Superman.

Lopez agreed. He says that as a parent of young children, he thinks it’s irresponsible for the parents to not be the adults guiding their kids.

The San Diego native, best known for playing A.C. Slater on Saved by the Bell, said he’s ‘kind of blown away too’ by the parenting decisions of some of his Tinseltown peers.

Said Lopez: ‘My God if you’re three-years-old, I just think it’s dangerous as a parent to make this determination then … it’s sort of alarming and my gosh, I just think about the repercussions later on.’

Lopez, who has two children with wife Courtney Laine Mazza – daughter Gia, eight, and son Dominic, five – added, ‘I think parents need to allow their kids to be kids, but at the same time, you got to be the adult in the situation.’

He said that a child’s ‘formative years’ are a more appropriate time to have the discussion,’ and before that is ‘way too young.’

Watch Lopez make a whole lotta sense here:

That seems pretty reasonable to me.

We all need to be sensitive to other people and treat those with gender dysphoria with care. That means that we need to make sure that we are doing the best for them. Even some transgender individuals don’t believe that children should be rushed into transition.

Besides, with the 63 genders that have been identified and all of the new sexual identities, how can a 3-year-old figure out where he/she fits in that mess? How would a preschool child know that he’s not actually a girl but a culturally male femme-presenting nonbinary demipansexual? Seriously, can Theron not see the damage that she could be causing?! (Yes, that was all sarcasm.)

Even former Disney star, Bella Thorne, didn’t know that she was pansexual until someone explained it to her.

Maybe that’s the problem right there. When you have to explain to an individual all of the nuances of their gender identity and their sexuality so that they can then embrace it — perhaps it’s not intuitive.

So much for “born that way.”
