Media(D) Upset That Conservatives Are Using Their Own Name-And-Shame Tactics Against Them

We’re moving into a Mutually-Assured-Destruction phase of social media brinkmanship.

The ‘blue team’ started this fight. But now that they are on the receiving end of their own tactics, they’re not happy about it.

We’ve seen them pulling this trick for years. Libs can’t beat us in the realm of ideas, so they look for OTHER ways to do damage to us and silence the people they can’t out-argue.

Media Matters and other groups like them employ teams of people whose entire job is to sift through every possible piece of dirt some leading Conservative voice might say, cut it into a damning soundbite, and try to scare off advertisers.

Better still, if they can comb through social media (or even yearbooks) from a decade or more ago in search of some errant word, or questionable phrase, the intervening years, or a lifetime of work will not serve as an excuse sufficient to keep the outrage mob and their ‘cancel culture’ at bay. We saw it with Kavanaugh’s yearbook and with ancient-history examples of Tucker Carlson calling in to a shock-jock radio show.

But that technique is a two-edged sword, isn’t it?

These same leftists have social media accounts of their own. And they know the damage that a single tweet, comment or even ‘like’ can wreak on a career.

They KNOW that, and yet the media have made a conscious editorial decision (leaked by Salon) to make this election cycle an effort to paint all Republicans — and especially Trump — as intractable racists, and their side as the good guys in the white hats.

What was that old expression about glass houses and stones?

A loose network of conservative operatives allied with the White House is pursuing what they say will be an aggressive operation to discredit news organizations deemed hostile to President Trump by publicizing damaging information about journalists.

It is the latest step in a long-running effort by Mr. Trump and his allies to undercut the influence of legitimate news reporting. Four people familiar with the operation described how it works, asserting that it has compiled dossiers of potentially embarrassing social media posts and other public statements by hundreds of people who work at some of the country’s most prominent news organizations.

The group has already released information about journalists at CNN, The Washington Post and The New York Times — three outlets that have aggressively investigated Mr. Trump — in response to reporting or commentary that the White House’s allies consider unfair to Mr. Trump and his team or harmful to his re-election prospects.

Operatives have closely examined more than a decade’s worth of public posts and statements by journalists, the people familiar with the operation said. Only a fraction of what the network claims to have uncovered has been made public, the people said, with more to be disclosed as the 2020 election heats up. The research is said to extend to members of journalists’ families who are active in politics, as well as liberal activists and other political opponents of the president.

…“If the @nytimes thinks this settles the matter we can expose a few of their other bigots,” Mr. Schwartz tweeted on Thursday in response to an apologetic tweet from a Times journalist whose anti-Semitic social media posts had just been revealed by the operation. “Lots more where this came from.”

The more aggressively they attack Trump’s credibility, the more their own will be in danger.

The Times is crying ‘foul’ because it claims such retaliatory reporting is an act of intimidation. They’ve got it all wrong. They are the ones using the guise of free speech to dishonestly malign people. What possible remedy does the public have for such a recourse? Simple — anyone who carries water for the partisan mudslinging that the NYT editorial staff has built the narrative of the next two years around had better be damned sure they’ve not got any skeletons in their own closet.

The answer to free speech is more free speech. To put it in terms the Left would understand… Alinsky: Rule 4.
