Hey Veterans: Here’s Why The Suffering In China Compels Us All To Be Grateful For Your Service

Written by Wes Walker on November 11, 2019

It’s easy to think of D-Day, Nazi Germany and the War in the Pacific as distant threats from a bygone era. But history will always dredge up a new monster for us to face. Will we be ready?

The rise and fall of nations may have changed the maps, but it hasn’t changed human nature. We forget sometimes, living in a culture that does not aim to swallow up the rest of the world, that not every nation shares that magnanimous view.

Some still dream of conquest, regional and beyond. Not just the crazed zealots who followed al-Bagdadi and company, either. Organized nations. Legitimate geo-political powers.

As we consider our relationship with China and their eyes toward expansion, there is the unspoken possibility that they will one day test American resolve the way Japan once tested it.

And a contest against a nation of like that one could be our nation’s most difficult test yet.

If that day ever comes — and let’s hope it never does because of the potential losses on both sides are almost incalculable — let’s not forget that the current regime can be every bit as ruthless as some of the monsters we point to from history.

You enjoy having free speech, do you? China’s rules will govern your speech. Ask Hong Kong about that.

Freedom of religion? Nope. They’re forcing churches to take down religious symbols and put up images of their dear leader. Those are the churches that haven’t been bulldozed or dynamited.

Fair trials and democracy? Those guys would make Schiff’s tyrannical impulses look like a rank amateur. Have you heard about their prison camps?

The Chinese Communist Party has interned between one and three million Uyghur Muslim people in the western region of Xinjiang, sometimes referred to as Sinkiang or Chinese Turkestan.

Uyghurs, alongside Kazakhs, Kyrgyz, and even some Christians and other religious minorities, are subject to systematic torture, disappearances and executions in the name of communist indoctrination.

One Uyghur woman described the situation in her homeland to Breitbart London, saying: “Torture, lack of food, no hygiene, and people are forced to take unknown medicines, women are forced to be sterilised. There are women who have been there for over one year, they said they didn’t have periods, young women, because they are forced to take some unknown medication.”

“Widespread rape has been reported, naked searches every other day, so the women have to be stripped naked and they have to sit up in front of many officials… and that is very humiliating, it’s against the complete humanity in this 21st century [sic]” she added.

“The people in the camps, including the very elderly, are forced to speak Chinese, forced to recite the Chinese ‘Red Songs’, Chinese propaganda, basically they have no rights,” she concluded.

But China is just a threat ‘over there’ right?

Not exactly.

Can it get worse? Of course it can. Governments with unchecked power are capable of the most heinous evils.

The Chinese government assigns men as “relatives” to monitor the families of detained Muslim Uighur men in China’s Xinjiang province in order to “promote ethnic unity,” according to a report from Radio Free Asia.

Titled the “Pair up and Become Family” program, the initiative involves Uighurs opening their homes for weeks at a time to Communist officials, who work, eat, and even sleep with the family.

“They help [the families] with their ideology, bringing new ideas. They talk to them about life, during which time they develop feelings for one another,” a government source with intimate knowledge of the program told Radio Free Asia.

“We also try to help them to make proper [sleeping] arrangements . . . it is now considered normal for females to sleep on the same platform with their paired male ‘relatives.’”

They are literal reeducation camps.

And what is our defense against such unchecked power?

Domestically, it’s our electoral process — which is why it’s so important that it not get hijacked by any deep state operatives who think their will should supersede that of the people.

Internationally, it’s our military standing by to make sure anyone dumb enough to challenge us knows that the cost of picking a fight would far exceed any potential gains they might hope to make.

Sometimes, in order to truly appreciate the value of those who serve in our military, it is necessary to look the threats they protect us from squarely in the eye.
