Impeachment Show Trial — Shades Of Stalin

In the 1930s Soviet Union, Joseph Stalin conducted a series of trials designed to eliminate his political opponents. All charges were fabricated. The guilt of the defendants was established before the trial. Confessions were extracted using torture and threats. They were called “show trials” because Stalin wanted to create the impression that the defendants were being tried fairly. No one was naïve enough to believe that these were fair trials. No one could have predicted that the same thing would occur in the US, yet we are now witnessing what amounts to a show trial of the president.

From the first day of Trump’s landing in the Oval Office, the Democrats — with the complicity of the Deep State and the media—have attempted to sabotage his presidency. It began with the Mueller investigation, which was what I called at the time the “Mt. Everest of political diversions.” The Mueller probe was an effort to divert attention from the worst political scandal in American history—a multitude of criminal activities by the DNC, the Hillary Clinton campaign, and members of the Obama administration including but not limited to Hillary Clinton, James Comey, Loretta Lynch, Susan Rice, and Obama himself. Mueller’s efforts met the same fate as Hillary’s presidential hopes, i.e., they failed miserably, much to the chagrin of Nancy Pelosi, Chuck Schumer, and company.

The Democrats were not discouraged by the failure of the special counsel. Pelosi threatened to up the pressure on Trump if the Democrats won back the House, which they did. Their next big gambit was to stage an impeachment, which also was a diversion—in this case an attempt to divert attention from the crimes committed by the leading Democratic candidate for the 2020 presidential race, Uncle Joe Biden. By his own admission—on video, no less—Biden committed extortion against the Ukrainian government. Biden threatened to withhold a billion dollars of US aid if Ukraine’s president didn’t fire a prosecutor who was investigating the lucrative sweetheart deal given to Biden’s son, Hunter.

Thanks in large part to Peter Schweizer’s eye-opening book, “Secret Empires: How the American Political Class Hides Corruption and Enriches Family and Friends,” we know that Biden used his position as vice president to enrich his son. That is called corruption. The Democrats want to impeach Trump because he wants to investigate that corruption. You can’t make this up.

Enter Adam Schiff and his show trial. No one is quite sure what “high crimes and misdemeanors” have been committed by the president that would justify impeachment. As in Stalin’s trials, the emperor has no clothes. “Nothing we have heard establishes a claim that the president acted improperly,” says Rep. Devin Nunes, “and nothing has been presented to support anything near impeachment.”

The original hearings were conducted in secret, hidden away in a basement. Republicans were not allowed. Now that Schiff has admitted Devin Nunes and Jim Jordan to the proceedings, Schiff is showing contempt for due process by arbitrarily placing limits on what the Republicans can say and do. “He doesn’t want his narrative to be challenged,” says Mark Levin. He only allows information that benefits the Democratic position. The Republicans are not allowed to present witnesses. Schiff’s feeble witnesses claim to have direct knowledge of presidential misconduct when in fact they are only capable of promoting second, third, and fourth-hand hearsay. It doesn’t matter. A five-year-old child can tell that the entire thing is a farce.

From the inception, Schiff has made up his own facts—including his own counterfeit version of Trump’s phone call with Ukrainian President Zelensky. Schiff’s arrogance is all the more outrageous when you consider that Trump had already released the actual transcript. What I don’t understand, however, is how the Democrats can be stupid enough not to realize that (a) the American public can see through the farcical nature of the entire proceeding, and (b) their impeachment argument will be destroyed if it ever goes to the Senate.

More than that, Schiff’s circus is an assumption of tyrannical powers in order to invalidate a bona fide presidential election. “What you are witnessing is tyranny,” says Mark Levin. “This is an outrageous violation of the Constitution.” Why are the Democrats doing this? Levin believes that their real aim is to influence the 2020 election. He also underscores the role of the media: “They sound like the Russian media! None of the newsrooms is calling it straight.”

“There is only one way to fix this,” says Levin. “On election day.” A satisfying consolation is that the Democrats will get their just deserts at the ballot box.
