This is what blind loyalty to ideology can get you. They LOVE pushing leftism, and then complain when the leftist policies bite them in the ass.
The people at VOX fought hard to destroy the ‘gig economy’ preventing the average schmuck from earning a few extra drachmas by driving strangers around in their own car.
In their minds, they were ‘protecting workers’. In reality, they were shutting ordinary citizens out of a tidy way to earn a few extra bucks on a flexible schedule.
It’s called the ‘gig’ economy, and like most things they can’t control, the Left hates it.
This tweet covers a cause-and-effect relationship of the left’s policies, as they can be summarized in this quote generally attributed to Churchill:
Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery.
They didn’t care too much about what pushing their policy would do to workers actually USING the ‘gig economy’ to make ends meet in California with headlines like this:
California AB 5: Law to regulate the gig economy is a win for workers everywhere
(It didn’t take long to regret THAT headline.)

But as a consequence of California adopting the very policies they pushed… ‘hundreds of Vox’ media are facing job losses. And if you look at the date stamps, it’s only a few months after they demanded this policy change.
Yes — and it should go without saying — these are real people, facing real hardship, and we should respect that.
But in the context of them pushing for exactly this outcome to hit who-knows-how-many-households while thinking their industry would be safe is exactly the reason they pushed for it in the first place.
Had they been able to foresee the harm they so blandly wished on others was a Sword of Damocles hanging above their own heads, they wouldn’t have rushed to push that policy change in the first place.
