AOC Says The Trump Administration Is ‘Targeting Pregnant Women’ — For Opposing Birth Tourism
This is precisely why she is derisively called “Occasional-Cortex.”
There are times when you can read freshman Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s tweets and dismiss them as the unhinged ramblings of a socialist ideologue. This is not one of those times. This is flat-out ignorance.
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez(D-NY) was outraged — outraged, I tell you! — to learn that the Trump administration is cracking down on birth tourism.
To everyone else that has been paying attention since 2015, President Trump isn’t a fan of “easy” U.S. citizenship and has railed against both illegal border crossing and so-called “anchor babies” — children born to women who are not citizens and may have dubious immigration status.
Cracking down on issuing visas to pregnant women seems completely consistent with this view.
But not to AOC. It’s a Cause Of Outrage because the administration is clearly targeting vulnerable, pregnant women just to be cruel.
Retweeting an NBC News article about restricting visas to pregnant women, AOC wrote, “Pregnant women. This administration is now targeting pregnant women. When you single out the most vulnerable, the cruelty is the point.” She then added a couple of anti-immigration enforcement hashtags — #Abolish ICE #BreakUpCBP.
No word from AOC if pushing abortion on demand without apology is “targeting” unborn babies because “when you single out the most vulnerable, the cruelty is the point.”

Birthright citizenship is a hotly debated issue in countries that still automatically grant it with no exception. Both England and Australia have put restrictions on birthright citizenship based on the status and/or residency of the parent (England) or the immigration status/residency of the parent as well as the age and residency of the child (Australia).
A couple of years ago, there was a big hullaballoo in the land up north when it was reported that Chinese nationals were advertising the benefits of Canadian citizenship and promoting birth tourism. It was also reported that a case moving through the courts was attempting to determine if the children of Russian spies in Canada were to be considered Canadian citizens. It sparked a much larger debate in Canada about possibly curtailing the practice of automatic birthright citizenship. Just a few weeks ago, the state broadcaster published an article stating that “birth tourism” in British Columbia is straining the publicly-funded healthcare system.
And that’s Canada, for crying out loud! The bastion of leftism that knowingly elected a Castro-loving, blackface-wearing, male feminist with a #MeToo past, multiple ethics violations, corruption scandals, and a pitiful legislative record.
The article that AOC tweeted out included the following tidbit:
Birth tourism is a lucrative business in both the U.S. and abroad. American companies take out advertisements and charge up to $80,000 to facilitate the practice, offering hotel rooms and medical care. Many of the women travel from Russia and China to give birth in the U.S. The U.S. has been cracking down on the practice since before Trump took office.
Although there are scattered cases of authorities arresting operators of birth tourism agencies for visa fraud or tax evasion, coming to the U.S. to give birth is fundamentally legal. And women are often honest about their intentions when applying for visas and even show signed contracts with doctors and hospitals.
There are no figures on how many foreign women travel to the U.S. specifically to give birth. The Center for Immigration Studies, a group that advocates for stricter immigration laws, estimated that in 2012, about 36,000 foreign-born women gave birth in the U.S., then left the country.

Maybe we should tell AOC that if she is for birth tourism she’s supporting capitalists preying on “vulnerable pregnant women” to charge them exorbitant fees to give birth in the United States. She might suddenly find herself against it… but you never can tell with AOC.
