AOC Wants REPARATIONS Considered In Coronavirus Relief Funding

Written by K. Walker on April 3, 2020

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez(D-NY) believes that coronavirus relief should be scaled by race.

On Friday morning, AOC tweeted, “COVID deaths are disproportionately spiking in Black + Brown communities. Why? Because the chronic toll of redlining, environmental racism, wealth gap, etc. ARE underlying health conditions. Inequality is a comorbidity. COVID relief should be drafted with a lens of reparations.”

She’s saying that inequality is a preexisting health condition that is inextricably tied to race.

This is somehow not racist to our friends on the Left.

Actually, it is racist because AOC wants to take into consideration an immutable characteristic and use that to create a blanket-measure rather than treating everyone as equal. It seems a wee bit antithetical to the view that our Founding Fathers held that “all men are created equal.”

It’s clear that what AOC is trying to do is consider the need for those with lower incomes, but she does so while holding onto the notion that this can only be done by looking at people through the lens of race.

Does this mean that a low-income white family should be given less assistance than a low-income black family?

Many of the chronic conditions place people in the higher risk category for morbidity from COVID-19, such as diabetes, high blood pressure, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, are all higher in the black community. This is why AOC is pushing the racial impact of the coronavirus.

The Washington Times reports:

Ms. Ocasio-Cortez has been sounding the alarm on the racial impact of the coronavirus pandemic and criticized members of her own party for not doing enough to alleviate the financial burden faced by low-income families. She has used the crisis as an opportunity to push her radical agenda, including universal health care, universal college, guaranteed housing and instituting a living wage.

On Tuesday, she slammed Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo for suspending mortgage payments but not rent payments during the coronavirus pandemic. Instead, he halted evictions for 90 days, though renters will still be responsible for missed payments.

The intersectional idiots really need to stop racializing everything like this.

Let’s attempt to use AOC logic for a minute…

It has been widely reported that the coronavirus is more lethal to men than women. Does that mean that we should give more money to men than women?

It’s just a hunch, but I’m thinking that AOC would say no to that, despite it the “settled science” on that.

Besides, there is clearly some politics in play here.

Where are the regions that are hardest hit? The urban centers. This makes sense when you have people living in packed together like they are in big cities it’s much more difficult to “socially distance” and reduce the spread. There is a clear urban/rural divide with the coronavirus in the rapid rate of transmission. It will likely take longer for someone who lives out on a farm and doesn’t head into town all that much to contract the virus than someone who lives in midtown Manhattan in a highrise.

Don’t forget that AOC represents a district in New York City which is the American epicenter of the coronavirus. She’s trying to look out for her own. It would be really nice if she could do that without resorting to playing racial politics and pushing a particular agenda.

After all, we’re all going to be affected at some point.
