Tesla CEO Elon Musk is urging states across the country to put an end to lockdowns aimed at preventing the spread of COVID-19…
…As the global COVID-19 outbreak began to take hold in the United States last month, a number of governors issued stay-at-home orders requiring people to avoid unnecessary travel and large gatherings in an effort to mitigate the spread of the disease. Many states also ordered nonessential businesses to close up shop for a time as part of the directives.
Many of those orders are set to expire at the start of May as President Trump and other leaders look to boost the economy after several weeks of mass closures in much of the nation.

In a follow-up tweet, Musk said that opening up should include care and appropriate protection, but that governments shouldn’t “put everyone under de facto house arrest.”

Elon Musk is right.
We need to start opening up the country again, but we need to do it in a smart way.
Americans have learned a lot throughout this pandemic, and I think that we can trust most Americans to behave in a way that protects vulnerable people while living their lives. There will also be a lot of people that are going to be cautious about resuming life in the same way that they did pre-COVID. Most people will take precautions.
We need our leaders to not behave like they’re our parents.
Look at the beaches in Florida–despite everyone warning against the reopening, it seems that people are social distancing and obeying the rules. The same thing can apply on a larger scale. We just need our leaders to trust us to be responsible.
