In 2017, I published a work of fiction on terrorism called Terrorist Gold. It is the story of a terrorist group that wants to use a COVID virus to attack America. People who have read it say it is terrifying and demonstrates what could happen with a virus attack. The fact is I wrote this book in 2016-17, and in Terrorist Gold, the terrorist group has acquired a COVID virus called the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) and plans to use it against America.
In the book, America has a team that works to try and stop the use of MERS, and if they are successful, they may well save the lives of tens of millions of Americans. My novel is fiction, but people who have read it and look at today’s headlines wonder: biological warfare is more dangerous than a nuclear attack because the virus can be spread from person-to-person and also by the wind.
Have you asked yourself how is it possible that the COVD-19 virus spread so quickly to the far corners of the world? How about this question: at what point in time did China make the decision not to tell the world about the virus? If China sent 5 million people all over the world during the Chinese New Year, knowing that many of these travelers were from the outbreak area, was it the moment that China became a terrorist nation?
When you look at the map on the Johns Hopkins website, you can see how widespread this virus has grown in such a short time. The spread, I believe, has a great deal to do with the millions of exposed people from China, who went out into the world, unknowingly to celebrate. These international travelers were the operative terrorists for China. They did not know that they had been infected; they knew nothing about the virus; however, the Chinese government did and made the decision to let them go.
On January 23, the World Health Organization’s (WHO) director-general decided to not declare the 2019-nCoV (the original name for the 2019 COVID-19, where “n’ stands for “novel” and “CoV” for “coronavirus) outbreak a public health emergency of international concern yet, as per recommendations by its emergency committee.
On the same day, the city of Wuhan shut down public transportation, and closed its airport and railway stations as of that Thursday morning, in efforts to curb the spread of the 2019-nCoV. The suspension was to be in effect “until further notice.”
Later in the day, another city was on lockdown: Ezhou. Beijing then canceled plans for Chinese New Year festivities and closed the Forbidden City. Another city, Huanggang, announced it would go into lockdown the next day, Friday. Singapore also confirmed its first imported case, while Vietnam confirmed two cases.
The Washington Times reported on February 8, four weeks after the first reports of a mysterious new virus in Wuhan, that before its airport and train stations were closed, millions of people poured out of the central Chinese city. They crammed onto buses, trains, and planes as the first wave of China’s great Lunar New Year migration broke across the nation and around the world.
The millions of Chinese that left Wuhan spread out in China as well as to other parts of the world to spread the virus. We might never know what the Chinese government chose when it came to a fork in the road, with one leading to help the world, while the other one could lead to world domination by destroying the economies of 185 nations.
Trillions of dollars have been spent by governments in fighting the COVID 19 virus that came from China. We will not know for a while if COVID 19 was a terrorist attack or not, but one indication will be what if anything China does to repay some of the money 185 countries have spent because of the China virus. Another key will be what China wants in exchange for helping to rebuild economies around the world.
You might ask that it may not have started at a terrorist attack, but it sure appears that potential terrorists now know they do not need bullets, bombs, tanks, ships or aircraft to get what they want: a COVID virus will do the trick.
