Bill de Blasio Announces ‘Checkpoints’ For Travellers Entering NYC And Fines For Quarantine Violators (VIDEO)

Does this mean that Bill de Blasi has recognized the value of border control?

Let’s be honest, he’s probably not bright enough to understand that what he’s doing amounts to border control and then extrapolate that out to the national level.

On Wednesday, Mayor Bill de Blasio announced some new measures to combat the spread of COVID in New York City–random checkpoints throughout the city to enforce Governor Andrew Cuomo’s mandatory 14-day quarantine for travelers entering New York state. De Blasio also said that visitors will be reminded that the quarantine is mandatory and that visitors could face fines of up to $10,000 for violations.

Isn’t there freedom of movement in the United States? Yes, but remember, Constitutional rights can be abridged by authoritarian Democrats during a pandemic with no end in sight for the noble reason of “public health.” Just because 99% of people who contract COVID recover, that doesn’t mean that you should live your life normally while protecting the most vulnerable populations.

Mayor de Blasio said that the measures are meant to “prevent not punish” and, in the typical leftist way, he said it’s all meant to “educate” travelers about the rules and then enforce them.

New York City Sheriff Joseph Fucito said that random checkpoints at NYC bridge and tunnel crossings will serve as the first deterrent.

“The only way to have an effective checkpoint is having a random component to it–let’s say it’s every six vehicles or every eight vehicles,” said de Blasio.

But checkpoints aren’t the only measures.

Additionally, NYC’s head of the “Test and Trace Corps,” Ted Long announced that agents would be deployed to Penn Station, in order to make sure new arrivals are in compliance.

Visitors to the city will also receive phone calls to check in. Those who fail to do so may be subject to a raid. “If we can’t get through to you on the phone, we’ve now deployed teams to knock on your door and check in on you to make sure you’re safe,” Long said.

De Blasio sees this as a strong first step, but allowed for the possibility of introducing wider and harsher measures in the future. “Having people see that these checkpoints are starting to happen around the city is going to send a powerful message,” he said. “If we think it’s an important tool … we might keep expanding it.”

Visiting NYC in 2020 be like:

After the Mayor’s announcement, the NYC Port Authority says that they were left out of the loop on the plan to have checkpoints even though they’re the ones that will now be policing the crossing points at tunnels and bridges. After being confronted on this massive blunder, City Hall told The New York Post that “most” of the checkpoints will be “at roadways coming into the City before or after bridges and tunnels.”

Tucker blasted Mayor de Blasio for his “military-style checkpoints” at entry points of each of the 5 boroughs. In his description of the checkpoints, Tucker makes it sound almost like East Berlin in the Cold War era, which would fit with Komrade de Blasio’s politics. Tucker also notes the immense hypocrisy of the entire situation–Governor Cuomo had called checkpoints like what de Blasio is now implementing “unconstitutional” and “reactionary.”

What’s darkly hilarious about this whole thing is twofold:

  • The state that has done (arguably) the worst job during the pandemic–after all, New Jersey crapped the bed pretty badly, too–is now acting as though it’s now the model for the rest of the country to follow. What arrogance and a complete lack of self-awareness!
  • Bill de Blasio is a champion of the “Sanctuary” cities and state position and is now enforcing border control.

Flashback to 2016:

So, to sum up…

Bill de Blasio is fine with open borders at the national level, but if you’re traveling from a state within the union into New York City, well, you’ll have to face the consequences. People sneaking across our border and flouting our immigration laws are a-okay, but heaven forbid an American citizen violates Governor Cuomo’s 14-day out-of-state quarantine order.

Bill de Blasio is the poster boy for Democrat hypocrisy.
