WTF? CDC Says That Wearing Cloth Masks Help Stop Spread COVID-19 But Won’t Protect Against Wildfire Smoke Particles
With wildfires raging on the West Coast, the CDC tweeted that cloth masks are no protection from the "small particles" in wildfire smoke but can still stop the spread of a virus.
The Center for Disease Control is losing credibility with that take.
The CDC tweeted, "Cloth masks that are used to slow the spread of #COVID-19 by blocking respiratory droplets offer little protection against #wildfire smoke. Limit your time outside when it's smoky."
The tweet links to an article about wildfire smoke and COVID-19.
Wildfire smoke can irritate your lungs, cause inflammation, affect your immune system, and make you more prone to lung infections, including SARS-CoV-2, the virus that cause COVID-19. Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, preparing for wildfires might be a little different this year. Know how wildfire smoke can affect you and your loved ones during the COVID-19 pandemic and what you can do to protect yourselves.
It also contained this little tidbit of info:
The Washington Times noted that some twitter users went wild mocking the CDC's position here. One person wrote, “If this makes sense, public education has failed you!” and another tweeted, “CV virions are 0.125 microns while most smoke particles can be seen with the naked eye. Pls stop lying to us. Masks don’t work for CV.”
Alex Berenson, who said in August that the global COVID outbreak at that point had been "slightly worse than a bad flu year" had the mic drop.
He's not wrong. How does it stop a virus but not stop smoke particles?
Remember, Joe wants to impose a national mask mandate...or maybe he doesn't...or maybe he does. He doesn't know and neither does his campaign.
