NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio Announces $1000 Fine For Anyone Not Wearing A Mask

Written by Wes Walker on October 1, 2020

They don’t have the cash to deal with homelessness or crime, but they will somehow find a way to fund a goon squad of 100s of COVID Karens.

Way to pick your priorities, De-Commio. You’re really letting your inner Mussolini stretch his legs, aren’t you? Or is that your Mini-Mao? All of you autocrats sort of blur together.

So, what’s his latest game of Obey Me Or Else looking like?

De Blasio on Tuesday said that he was going to aggressively crack down on people who flouted the rule and that cops will start issuing fines.

First, they will offer people a free mask if they are not already wearing one. If they refuse, they will be fined, he said, without saying how much they would be fined.

Fifty bucks? That’s definitely pain-in-the-ass territory. But even parking tickets can run you more than that. Is that really so draconian?

No, that’s isn’t the fine we mean. We’re talking about THIS one:

In New York, Mayor Bill de Blasio said the city will fine residents or visitors up to $1,000 if they refuse to wear a mask in public. The rate of positive COVID-19 tests has risen above 3% in New York City for the first time in months.

“We don’t want to fine people, but if we have to, we will,” de Blasio said at a news conference announcing the penalty, which will be enforced by police and health officials who will offer a mask to those caught not wearing one before fining them. — Reuters

Yikes.

But surely they aren’t going out of their way to strongarm anyone, are they? That’s mostly on the books as a threat to make people take this seriously… right?

This doesn’t get any worse, does it?

No, it doesn’t. (Unless you happen to be Jewish then, yes. Yes it does.)

De Blasio said his efforts are particularly focused on nine predominately Orthodox Jewish neighborhoods in Queens and Brooklyn, where Jewish communities recently celebrated the holidays of Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur.

In addition to saying he would visit with Jewish leaders in the targeted communities, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo also commented on the mask mandate.

“I don’t care what your political opinion is,” Cuomo said. “I don’t care what your religious opinion is. Mask wearing is a law.” —Disrn

Oh FFS.

When will all this be over already?

If the answer turns out to be ‘November 4th’ there had better be hell to pay.
