As you read this, we are entering a new America, Biden’s America. While no one can predict with certainty what will unfold in the next two to four years, it is clear that Biden’s America will be much different from the Trump administration’s America. While there are many areas of difference, one of the most stark is the way that the Trump administration and the incoming Biden administration view life.
The Trump administration declared January 22, 2021 to be National Sanctity of Life Day.
The official proclamation begins,
Every human life is a gift to the world. Whether born or unborn, young or old, healthy or sick, every person is made in the holy image of God. The Almighty Creator gives unique talents, beautiful dreams, and a great purpose to every person. On National Sanctity of Human Life Day, we celebrate the wonder of human existence and renew our resolve to build a culture of life where every person of every age is protected, valued, and cherished.
This was one of the final proclamations of the Trump administration and it underscores that President Trump was one of the most pro-life presidents this country has ever seen.
By contrast, the incoming Biden administration has a different view of the sanctity of life. NBC News notes, “President-elect Joe Biden is poised to roll back several of the Trump administration's most restrictive sexual and reproductive health policies, including limits on abortion.”
Alexis Magill-Johnson, President and CEO of Planned Parenthood, opined, "We have a ton of work to do to undo the harm over the last four years, but knowing we have champions there who understand what needs to happen in the first 100 days is tremendously exciting.”
Planned Parenthood’s infatuation with the Biden-Harris administration has been growing for quite a while. In August of 2020, Planned Parenthood Action, one of the activist arms of Planned Parenthood, spent five figures on an online video ad hailing Harris as “OUR Reproductive Health Champion.” The group Planned Parenthood Votes, another of Planned Parenthood’s activist groups, also released a fact sheet “Nine Reasons to Love Kamala Harris.”
Beginning January 20, 2020, Planned Parenthood and all others who find the killing of babies in their mothers’ wombs morally acceptable will have two champions in the highest offices in the free world. As a Christian, I find this truth repugnant. I feel certain, though, that restrictions on abortion will be lessened and Planned Parenthood will be well-funded. Missouri, my home state, is currently the only state in the union that is “abortion free.”
I believe the Show Me state will be under intense pressure by the federal government and liberal activists to re-establish abortion rights. Abortion will once again become a sacrament of the political left.
I realize that many of us on the right hoped the Supreme Court and the most recent justice, Justice Amy Coney Barrett, might bring about the end of Roe v. Wade. It is still possible, but it is hard to see that happening in the current political climate. It is also possible that the Democrats could stack the court.
I know this is a gloomy article. I get that. It is, however, the truth, for now. The election of 2020 has come and gone. Biden is the president. From where I stand, that’s a dark prospect for the future.
However, God is still in control. We will succeed if we commit to doing and standing for the things that are right. Let’s all resolve to pray and not compromise on the things that are right and true. One of those things is the precious gift of life.
