It was a simple question — Does President Biden consider Governor Cuomo’s response to COVID to be the “gold standard” the way he said he did in April? The White House Press Secretary refused to respond.

On Sunday, White House Press Secretary, Jen Psaki, appeared on ABC’s Sunday morning show, This Week and repeatedly dodged the question posed by Jon Karl.

Is the White House’s position to stand by Governor Andrew Cuomo now that we know that his administration was deliberately hiding the number of deaths in nursing homes?

It appears so.

Here’s a partial transcript of the exchange.

JON KARL: Does President Biden still consider Andrew Cuomo the gold standard when it comes to leadership on the pandemic?

JEN PSAKI: Well, Jon, we work with Governor Cuomo, just like we work with governors across the country. He’s also chair of the NGA,’ Psaki dodged. ‘So, he plays an important role in insuring that we’re coordinating closely and getting assistance out to people of his state and to states across the country. And we’ll continue to do that.

KARL: All right. But, Jen, my question was, does President Biden still believe that Andrew Cuomo is the gold standard – represents the gold standard on leadership during this pandemic? Just a yes or no. Does he still consider him a gold standard?

PSAKI: Well, it doesn’t always have to be a yes or no answer, Jon. I think the president is focused on his goals, his objectives as president of the United States. He’s going to continue to work with Governor Cuomo, just like he’ll continue to work with governors across the country.

Watch:

It’s appalling the way that the Biden administration continues to stand by the Governor that has had the worst response to COVID in the country especially with the most vulnerable population — elderly residents in nursing homes.

It’s especially egregious since Cuomo’s handling of nursing homes during the pandemic is now being investigated by both the FBI and the U.S. Attorney’s office in New York.

Legal experts are saying that the actions that Cuomo’s COVID task force may actually rise to the level of a federal crime.

In an op-ed for the Wall Street Journal, John B. Daukas, who served as acting U.S. attorney general for the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division, wrote that DeRosa’s reported admissions who that Cuomo’s administration “wasn’t merely negligent, but intentional and perhaps criminal.”

Daukas said numerous federal statutes could apply, noting that Cuomo’s administration is accusing of both making false statements to the federal government and trying to thwart an investigation.

“Even if it cannot be proved that the Cuomo administration knowingly provided false information to Justice and the (Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services), New York’s willful failure to provide information may itself constitute a criminal offense—particularly if the intent was to thwart a federal investigation—which, after all, is exactly what Ms. DeRosa reportedly said the administration did,” Daukas wrote.

And on Saturday, Fox News legal analyst Gregg Jarrett said DeRosa’s admission to lawmakers – if true – constitutes a potential obstruction of justice charge. Per the federal statute, Jarrett noted, if a government official falsifies or hides evidence to avoid triggering an investigation (or acts out of fear that such a probe may occur) that official is still culpable under the law of obstruction.”

Disgraceful that the Biden administration is refusing to condemn the Cuomo administration for thousands of needless deaths. Governor Cuomo chose not to send COVID-positive nursing home residents to the Javits Center or the USNS Comfort because he didn’t want to give Trump a “win” in providing aid during the pandemic’s early days.

Gee, that seems to have bitten him in the ass a wee bit.

Jen Psaki isn’t great at her job. She’s supposed to be able to sidestep the question and change the subject when she’s cornered and she can’t seem to do that.

But hey, maybe we’ll hear her “circle back” on what the White House thinks of Governor Cuomo who was rumored to have been on the short-list for U.S. Attorney General.
