Much is made of ‘authoritarian’ Trump or the DC ‘insurrection’ that threatened our very democracy … but how often do we hear about this OTHER threat to our institutions?
A federal judge at the DC circuit for the Court of Appeals, no less, took time in a recent ruling to bring attention to something that could prove far more corrosive to the great American Experiment.
Judge Laurence Silberman took specific aim at the supposedly ‘free’ press and specifically unloaded on the big fish in the ‘mainstream media’ in a ruling he made about libel laws in this country.
He pointed to the fact that authoritarian regimes have, as an early step in consolidating their power, the capture and control of media outlets.
Ironically, in the American context, there wasn’t much to capture or coerce, as they have become willing accomplices, which leads us smoothly into the point the judge was making next.
Silberman argued that it’s time for courts to revisit New York Times v. Sullivan, which has shaped press law in favor of media outlets for more than five decades. The New York Times and the Washington Post “are virtually Democratic Party broadsheets. And the news section of The Wall Street Journal leans in the same direction,” Judge Silberman wrote in his March 19 dissent.
He said that orientation also controls the Associated Press and most large papers in the country, including the Los Angeles Times, Miami Herald, and Boston Globe. “Nearly all television—network and cable—is a Democratic Party trumpet,” Judge Silberman added.
Silicon Valley also has “enormous influence” over the distribution of news and it “similarly filters news delivery in ways favorable to the Democratic Party,” wrote Judge Silberman, highlighting the shocking suppression of stories about Joe Biden and his family when he was running for president.
In that case, Twitter and Facebook censored media outlets that reported accurately about the Biden family’s dealing with foreign entities. Twitter suspended users, including sitting White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany, for merely sharing accurate information, and prevented people from sharing the information privately on its platform. Facebook said it would censor coverage of the Biden family corruption pending a “fact-check,” an unprecedented privilege given to Biden in the closing days of one of the closest presidential elections in history. —Federalist
While he acknowledged that media players that do not follow lockstep with these groups can be just as partisan in the other direction, the main counterweight to the official narrative is owned by one man and his son and is actively being opposed by activists on the left trying to muzzle Fox News.
It’s pretty rich for a party that objects so loudly to media bias only really objects to the few dissenters willing to put their own names and reputations on the line and say that the mainstream-media ‘Emporer has no clothes’.
Those people are being deliberately and systematically squeezed out of the ecosystem.

They want to choke off sites like ours from our readership so that we cannot influence culture or get any stories out that might be harmful to any Democrat narratives or various cultural power-grabs. Many went bankrupt as a result of the previous purges.
These authoritarians have no desire to stop until every dissenting voice is silenced or locked down to the point that they are not much more than a lonely voice screaming into the wind in an empty wilderness.
These other tools, like notifications, bookmarking the page, Parler, MeWe, and the email list are ways to keep the left’s eager jackboot from crushing the throat of dissenting voices like ours.
It’s the same reason you should support your favorite patriotic websites. Some offer subscriptions, others, like this one, use ads to pay the bills and keep the lights on. Ads are what keeps our content free for everyone who would like to see it.
