His name is Adam Toledo. He was 13. We’ll be hearing his name a lot in the coming days.
With the ink not yet dry on the charging documents for the cop who shot Duante Wright and the Derek Chauvin trial coming to a close, news of another officer-involved shooting is NOT what the American powder-keg needs right now.
Sadly, that’s exactly what we’ve got.
Police have released body-cam footage of a recent fatal encounter with police.
This time, there are different complicating factors. There was a foot-pursuit. There was a gun. Eight shots had already been fired, by one of the two suspects. And the person who was shot? He was only 13 years old.
Did we mention this all happened at 2:30 in the morning of March 29th?
Here is a news clip explaining the facts surrounding the events in a relatively impartial manner.
If you watch to the end of the video, you will hear the news person say that the gun was only visible for just 838 milliseconds. This gave the officer less than one second to react to the presence of a gun.
There are all kinds of questions one might ask about this incident.
One can hope these questions will be handled and investigated in a rational and productive manner.
But this is 2021. We’re not holding our breath.
