Everywhere is trying to become “more diverse” — even the Central Intelligence Agency.

The CIA has decided to profile some of its agents in recruitment videos and, of course, they’re ticking off the identity boxes. But, in the “woke” ad that went viral, the woman who works for the spy agency is telling you that’s not what they’re doing. Spoiler Alert: it’s quite clearly what they’re doing.

The “Humans of CIA” videos that profile employees make sure that they note their identity as a woman, a black woman, a gay man, a blind woman, and even their “Chief of Corporate Strategy in Education for Diversity and Inclusion.”

Of course they did.

The ad that went viral featured a “cisgender, millennial Latina” who is the “daughter of immigrants”, the mother of two boys. She has been diagnosed with “generalized anxiety disorder” and used to suffer from “imposter syndrome.” In the video, she explains that she is “intersectional” but that her identity doesn’t “tick off boxes” yet, as she talks about her credentials, the video shows awards that are all about diversity, including a 2019 Exceptional Service Award certificate from the Intelligence Community Equal Employment Opportunity and Diversity department awarded (presumably) to the speaker… because that’s not about “ticking off boxes.”

The whole thing was a word-salad of “wokeness” that looked like it was taken from the Social Justice encyclopedia.

Here is the video that went viral:

Notably, the YouTube video has the comments turned off.

Notice that not once does this woman call herself a proud American in her numerous list of intersectional identities. She mentions how proud she is of being a “first-generation Latina”, the daughter of immigrants, and a woman of color. She’s also proud of her intelligence, her education, and where she is in her career, but makes no mention of the pride she has in the country that she serves.

Former CIA officer Bryan Dean Wright was on Fox & Friends on Tuesday talking about this recruitment video and called the focus on “wokeness” in the intelligence community rather than on the agency’s mission to protect the country a “nightmare situation” because our enemies don’t ascribe to “wokeness.”

In his cheeky monologue on Tuesday evening, Carlson posits that maybe BDW is wrong and this is all part of the CIA plan to infiltrate the real threat to America.

Maybe Tucker Carlson is on to something here. Marc Polymeropoulos, a former senior officer in the CIA tweeted that diversity in the CIA is important.

It just makes you wonder if you can take the CIA seriously.

As a visible minority woman, I hate affirmative action policies because it always leaves the question if the person employed is a “diversity hire” or is there because of merit. This is even in the mind of the person employed. In the past, I have wondered if I received a job because I was qualified or if it was because my race or gender filled some quota. It’s not a comfortable place to be. Ironically, these policies contribute to things like anxiety and imposter syndrome.

Great job, CIA.
