Imagine the ‘my dad could beat up your dad’ conversations this little boy will have in the schoolyard after his dad made the news for jumping into a gator enclosure!
It started out as a regular petting-zoo kind of a visit, where one of the staff was telling the onlookers about alligators. Those in attendance got a lot more than they bargained for. They got to see a live gator-wrestling demonstration. (And did we mention this was for a birthday party?)
The female staffer, Lyndsey, was standing outside the enclosure and swung open the window/door. When the gator came too close to her, she used a technique of reaching under its lower jaw to force the head up, and push the alligator away from her.
Lyndsey made that motion with the confidence of someone who had done it plenty of times before now, not like someone who was reacting in panic. Unfortunately, in the last step of the movement, when she was pulling her hand back to herself, the gator snapped its jaws and caught hold of her.
The video here shows that happening, and one of the onlookers springing into action to help the young woman in need. The Utah man who came to her rescue is Donnie Wiseman, 48. At first he called for help, ‘we have trouble in here’. But when the gator rolled her in the water, he wasn’t taking any chances.
Not all heroes wear capes.
A guest at a reptile centre jumped into the enclosure to rescue a handler pulled in by an alligator.
The staff member was taken to the hospital and is expected to make a full recovery, according to local media reports.

Wiseman gets on top of the gator, follows Lyndsey’s instructions to help her get free of its jaws while she makes her escape to freedom and medical attention. After that, there is a brief window where he is alone, sitting on the back of an alligator, with the onlooking crowd wondering whether Donnie can get out of there in one piece.
Donnie looked for his opening, eventually managing to get to safety.
