If this case is legit and not yet another FBI frame up, it looks like they may have finally served the public interest.

But why were they MIA on some OTHER big stories that were just as sensitive?

In case you missed it, here’s what happened.

A US Navy nuclear engineer is facing criminal consequences for selling state secrets to someone he believed to be a representative of a foreign power. He and his wife conspired to pass thumb drives loaded with classified information to dead drops in return for $100k delivered in the form of cryptocurrency.

Jonathan Toebbe and his wife, Diana, were arrested on Saturday in West Virginia following a year-long sting operation by undercover FBI agents, the Justice Department said in a statement.

…Jonathan Toebbe, 42, a nuclear engineer with top secret security clearance, is accused of sending U.S. Navy documents to an unnamed foreign entity in 2020, along with instructions for how to obtain additional information.

…At one point, Toebbe hid a digital memory card containing documents about submarine nuclear reactors in half a peanut butter sandwich at a “dead drop” location in West Virginia, while his wife acted as lookout, the Justice Department said.

The memory card contained “militarily sensitive design elements, operating parameters and performance characteristics of Virginia-class submarine reactors,” according to a federal court affidavit. –NewsMax

They both remain innocent unless and until they are convicted of a crime, and the use of the word ‘sting’ in the same sentence as the FBI sets this writer’s spidey sense tingling, but this is why we have courts.

If they caught a genuine bad guy doing genuine bad things — without resorting to the use of entrapment — well good for them.

But if this is another case of Feds luring an ordinary citizen into committing a crime they would have had no intention of committing had they not been goaded into it by the feds, that’s a whole other story.
