The old line is that a conservative is a liberal who has been mugged by reality. We shall know soon enough whether this axiom applies to carjacking too.

We have two elected Democrats helping us test this theory. Both of them were carjacked in different Democrat cities… and it happened just hours apart.

It’s one thing for conservatives to cite crime figures, or complain that cities are getting more dangerous. Democrats can dismiss that as partisan talking points. But for those same Democrats to be staring down the barrel of a gun during a felony? That gives you a whole different perspective.

Like most other Democrats after the riotous summer of 2020, the two elected Democrats in question are supporters of some version of the ‘defund the police’ vision.

Here is a quote from Philadelphia’s Rep Mary Gay Scanlon

As[sic] the time the Mental Health Justice Act was introduced in February 2021, with Scanlon on board as one of its original co-sponsors, The Hill reported, “Congress wants to make it easier for state and local governments to defund the police by instead funding mental health services and empowering them to respond to emergency calls instead of armed officers.” —TheWorldNews

And here’s a little bit about State Senator Kimberly Lightford, of Illinois.

Lightford, who chairs the Illinois Black Caucus, worked with Barack Obama when he was an Illinois state senator representing the 13th District. In the late 1990s, Lightford and Obama worked together to pass a racial profiling reform law.

As a senator, Lightford has been a major sponsor of police reform in Illinois. She played a pivotal role in the state’s criminal omnibus bill passed during a lame–duck legislative session in January 2021. — Read More

With Democrat cities actively cutting the knees out of law enforcement, not to mention changing how criminals are prosecuted even if they are caught, crime as been spiking.

As of now, these two elected Democrats are keenly aware of the reality of that fact.

Police say Mary Gay Scanlon was carjacked at about 2:45 p.m. on Wednesday after attending a tour with other members of Congress.

Scanlon was walking to her vehicle when two armed men approached her and demanded the keys to her blue 2017 Acura MDX. The robbers also made off with her personal cell phone, her government cell phone, her purse, and her identification.

Scanlon’s office released a brief statement about the alarming incident.

“The Congresswoman was physically unharmed. She thanks the Philadelphia Police Department for their swift response, and appreciates the efforts of both the Sergeant at Arms in D.C. and her local police department for coordinating with Philly PD to ensure her continued safety.” —Blaze

Five people have already been arrested in connection with that crime.

Illinois Senate Majority Leader Kimberly Lightford and her husband were carjacked Tuesday night in west suburban Broadview with masked gunmen stealing her 2018 Mercedes SUV, police said.

Lightford and her husband Eric McKennie were unharmed, according to a statement from Thomas Mills, chief of the Broadview Police Department.

At about 9:45 p.m., three masked gunmen driving a Dodge Durango SUV stole Lightford’s vehicle in the 2000 block of South 20th Avenue, Mills said. Broadview police officers are trying to identify the robbers with surveillance video, he said.

Mills said, “multiple shots were fired during the incident.”

…“First and foremost I am thankful that my husband and I are alive and physically unharmed. I am trying to process the trauma of what happened. I want to thank everyone who has offered their love and support. I want to especially thank Mayor Katrina Thompson and the Broadview Police Department for their quick and thorough response.” —Chicago Sun Times

Those are some very kind words of appreciation to the police department, on the part of both Democrats. Imagine that.

Will this translate into a rethink on the previous police policy commitments of either person?’

Only time will tell.

In the meantime, maybe they can get their hands on a little inspiration, in case they find themselves needing to take a bold stand on an issue.

Biblical Badasses: The Women

In Doug Giles’ latest book, Biblical Badasses: The Women, Giles spotlights ten epic ladies who did awesome things for God with the odds severely stacked against them. These girls weren’t your typical church ladies. They were holy movers and shakers who upset hell with their God-honoring, faith-filled, lives. Giles’ unique take on these terrific women makes the scripture come alive. This book is real, raw, relevant, and irreverent. Giles’ prayer is that after reading, Biblical Badasses: The Women, not only will your noggin be filled with these amazing tales of high and lows from real women who rocked in a hard place, via the power of God, but that you will get off your butt, quit pursuing stupidity, start chasing down your high calling and at the end of your life, you too, like the holy femme fatales featured herein, will have left a massive scar on Satan’s haggard backside.
