Sheriff Bob Johnson of Santa Rosa County isn’t mincing any words, and what he said in this clip is going to drive gun-grabbing thug-huggers out of their minds.
As he begins the presser, Sheriff Johnson makes a reference to ‘frequent flyers’ — the kind of criminal that turns directly to crime from the moment he’s let back into society. He’s been riding that revolving door in and out of jail since he was 13, with 17 arrests.
This time, after several homeowners had reported a suspicious person lurking around the neighborhood, police showed up in force and created a perimeter. It turned out to be a guy who was wanted on several outstanding warrants, and he bolted. The perp started jumping fences, and broke into a couple of different homes in his attempt to escape the police.
In the midst of that, one homeowner — nobody’s yet sure which home it came from — fired shots at the intruder, but missed.
That’s the part of this presser that is the most interesting for our purposes. (Found at about the 2:35 mark in the video)
After enumerating the litany of charges (both old outstanding charges and the newly-minted ones from that day) that the suspect is facing, the Sheriff took a moment out of his press conference to address a message to the unidentified homeowner:
‘We don’t know which homeowner shot at him. I guess they think they did something wrong, which they did not. If somebody’s breaking into your house, you’re more than welcome to shoot him in Santa Rosa County. We prefer that you do, actually. So whoever that was, you’re not in trouble, come and see us. We have a gun safety class we put on every other Saturday and if you take that, you’ll shoot a lot better and hopefully you’ll shoot a lot better, and hopefully you’ll save the taxpayers money.
