The secular left wants no part of religious observance or duty… while demanding the right to have a say on how things are run in an institution they hold in utter contempt.

How typical of the left.

Pelosi, supposedly a devout catholic, has been pushing the abortion issue harder than any Democrats dared to push it before.

We have gone, at whiplash speed, from ‘safe, legal and rare’, to ‘shout your abortion’, to brazenly and unapologetically defending the right to end an unborn life mere moments before the baby’s first cry.

With Roe v Wade in danger of being struck down, and decisions about laws kicked back to the various states, Democrats are frantic to do everything they can to protect their very favorite public policy.

It’s gotten so blatant that Pelosi won’t even let the House vote on a bill that obligates medical staff to preserve the life of any baby who survives the trauma of abortion and has begun to take his or her first breaths.

That would be why Archbishop San Francisco Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone made a public announcement to Pelosi that, because she has ignored his letter from April 7th calling her to either live as a Catholic (which includes a pro-life position) or to refrain from making public proclamations about her devout Catholic beliefs, that he has no choice but to publicly call her out and tell her she has been barred from receiving communion unless and until she has gone through the specifically Catholic steps of repenting from sin the bishop reminds us has been codified in canon law.

“A Catholic legislator who supports procured abortion, after knowing the teaching of the Church, commits a manifestly grave sin which is a cause of most serious scandal to others. Therefore, universal Church law provides that such persons “are not to be admitted to Holy Communion” (Code of Canon Law, can. 915).” — From full text of the Archbishop’s letter per National Catholic Register

Pelosi being censured by her moral and religious authority for actively advocating for acts that her own voluntarily-accepted moral and religious authority has denounced as sinful? How DARE he!

The San Francisco Examiner’s editorial board was deeply offended. They took it upon themselves to demand the removal of this Archbishop.

In response, the liberal editorial board blasted the Catholic leader for “punishing” Pelosi, instead of “right-wing politicians” who “[vote] against health care or funding for the poor.”

They defended Pelosi as a leader who has “consistently fought on the morally right side of these issues,” and praised her as a role model for women.

…“Cordileone’s chief loyalty is not to Christ, but to the cabal of far-right American bishops led by Raymond Leo Burke, a Catholic prelate who has led a continual campaign to undermine Pope Francis’ authority,” they wrote, before demanding the Pope remove the “radical conservative” from San Francisco.

“We repeat the call for Pope Francis to remove him and replace him with a leader who can unify rather than divide. Cordileone’s radical conservative politics might attract more people to the faith in places like Oklahoma or Texas, but his partisan pomposity will win no converts in San Francisco,” the editorial board complained.

The Examiner ended their editorial by praising Pelosi’s Catholicism, compared to the archbishop’s. — FoxJackson

That dovetailed perfectly with the predictable calls to strip the churches of their tax-exempt status by many of the same people who ooh-ed and ahh-ed over Joe Biden’s far more Christian and devout example that that Trump guy he replaced and how they loved that great big Bible he used on the day of his inauguration.

They like the idea of religion, so long as they can limit the scope of what real moral authority it can bear on real life. They like it so long as it can be divorced from Christ’s call to ‘go and sin no more’. They’re not so keen on that part.

They would prefer a Jesus who could sign on to all of their moral value statements. Then he would be cool enough to join their club.

There’s a name for that attitude: idolatry.

Instead of a golden calf, they’ve got the sacrament of abortion.

They can please the abortion activists, or they can please a Holy God.

But in the end, a decision has to be made one way or the other.

Rules For Radical Christians is not a survival devotional designed to help the young Christian adult limp through life.
