COVID Lockdowns And The New Rise In Polio — Is There A Connection?

Oh, did you hear? Polio’s back. While we were busy freaking out about a virus that does minimal harm to young healthy people without comorbidities, Polio was making a comeback.

Yes, that Polio.

It’s currently popping up on the radar in London.

The United Kingdom is on high alert after polio virus was found in its sewage system. Public health officials in the country are now urging anyone who is not fully immunized to get vaccinated immediately.

The World Health Organization said it confirmed that “vaccine-derived poliovirus type 2” was found in environmental samples in London. As The Wall Street Journal explained, that’s “a mutated form of the weakened live virus found in the oral polio vaccine still used in some countries. People who receive the oral vaccine shed small amounts of virus in their feces. In places that lack adequate sanitation, it sometimes mutates to resemble the naturally occurring virus and can infect people who aren’t fully immunized.” — Deseret News

‘Some countries’ is an interesting turn of phrase. From an NPR story back in April:

While the United States and other Western countries inject an inactivated virus that poses no risk of spread and are now polio-free, other countries rely on an oral vaccine. It’s cheap, it’s easy to administer and two or more doses confer lifelong immunity. But it’s made with living, weakened virus. And that poses a problem. — NPR

London’s in a Western country. What could *possibly* account for a risk-factor specifically associated with far-flung impoverished countries showing up in London sewers? It’s a real head-scratcher, innit?

But, there was something else in that NPR piece that seemed relevant.

One reason for this rise in cases, say polio experts, is that gaps in immunization in recent years have created more opportunities for the unvaccinated to become infected. “Vaccination campaigns have been certainly affected by the pandemic,” says Raul Andino, a virologist at University of California, San Francisco.

In early 2020, for example, there was a 4-month pause in polio vaccination efforts in more than 30 countries, according to Ananda Bandyopadhyay, deputy director for polio at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. (Editor’s note: The Gates Foundation is a funder of NPR and this blog).

“The result of this pause and disruption can be seen in the close to tripling of [vaccine-derived polio] cases from 2019 to 2020,” he says, “and an increase in the number of outbreaks.” —NPR

[For clarity’s sake, Gates Foundation is connected to NPR’s blog, not ClashDaily’s site.]

Our concern about ‘stopping’ a virus whose spread we never actually prevented, and which posed relatively little danger to the young and healthy led to massive global shutdowns championed by the likes of Little Lord Fauci.

The question voices like ClashDaily raised at the time, including ‘how do we know if the lockdown approach won’t cause more harm than good?’ fell on deaf ears.

Only hindsight is showing us the real pricetag of these massive shutdowns.

Hopefully we can get out ahead of the problem before it becomes prevalent, but at least one of the direct implications of the ‘solution’ championed by our experts seems to be a rise in polio cases.

What’s that old saying about a cure that’s worse than the disease?

Dear Christian: Your Fear Is Full of Crap

by Doug Giles

Beginning in March 2020, many Christians went into lockdown-freak-out mode.

They “socially distanced” themselves from corporate worship and from pretty much everyone and everything else, except, of course, liquor, and grocery stores.

Uncut, irrational, unbiblical, and not to mention, unconstitutional, fear gripped many churches and church leaders.

Should pastors publicly repent if they obeyed Fauci in regard to how they conducted their ministry instead of adhering to the clear commands of the King of Kings and Lord of Lords?

That’s a legit question, eh?

Get your copy of Dear Christian: Your Fear Is Full of Crap now. Better yet, grab an extra copy for any petrified pastor who dutifully put obedience to the unconstitutional edicts of Mayor McCheese ahead of obedience to the explicit commandments of the LORD God Almighty.
