This brave mom’s account raises a lot of questions about the law enforcement response at the scene of the school shooting.
Angeli Gomez, the mom from Uvalde, Texas who ran into Robb Elementary School to rescue her two sons was interviewed by CBS News and explained what happened that day.
Gomez, who is a farm worker, said that she was at the school earlier in the day for a graduation ceremony and went back to work. Her mother called her frantically saying that there was a shooting at the school, so she hopped in her car and sped to the scene.
When she arrived, she said that she saw a number of law enforcement officers holding parents back while gunshots could be heard coming from the school. She said that she couldn’t believe that they weren’t going into the building to rescue the children.
Many parents have expressed their frustration that police seemed more concerned about maintaining a perimeter than saving the lives of kids.
Gomez had initially been handcuffed by police but when they uncuffed her, she ran in and rescued her two sons — one in second and the other in third grade.
She also said that after she first spoke out, she received a call from law enforcement warning her to stop telling her story.
