Twitter Takeover: GOP Asks Musk For Company Emails That Old Management Kept Hidden

There’s a new sheriff in town at Twitter… and he doesn’t have any stake in the dirty laundry the old guard wants to hide.

No wonder there was so much panic when Musk’s deal to purchase Twitter was once again on track. Now the mutually-assured-destruction consequences of blowing the whistle is no longer in play. The hardcore partisans in positions of power, blurring the lines between policy and politics have been sent packing.

Now, the company is exactly as transparent as Elon Musk wants it to be. It’s early days yet, but he seems willing to play ball, and make this a platform open to all comers. This could be bad news and not just for the old guard, either.

We know from that recent Intercept story and from discovery in the lawsuit Missouri has launched against big tech that are a lot of people outside of Twitter who don’t want us to know their dirty secrets about improper political collusion.

The people who nuked Trump’s account and stonewalled the GOP’s questions about collusion aren’t working there anymore.

A top House Republican investigator is calling on Twitter owner Elon Musk to hand over any and all company records related to the social media giant’s decision to suppress stories about Hunter Biden’s laptop hard drive ahead of the 2020 election.
Rep. James Comer (R-KY), the ranking member on the House Oversight Committee, called on Twitter’s new billionaire owner to cooperate with the congressional request after the Republican says the company’s former CEO, Parag Agrawal, ignored a document preservation request back in April.
“Committee Republicans are investigating the Biden family’s pattern of influence peddling to enrich themselves and President Biden’s involvement in these schemes,” Comer wrote to Musk on Friday. “As part of this investigation, Committee Republicans are reviewing the role Big Tech — including Twitter — played in supporting the Biden campaign in 2020 by suppressing certain stories implicating the Bidens.”
Comer added: “We hope you will correct this error made by the company’s former leadership and provide Americans with transparency. To that end, we request Twitter provide information regarding its previous leaders’ decision to limit information that may have affected the 2020 election.” — WashingtonExaminer

The fact that Musk has specifically weighed in on how it was inappropriate for Twitter to spike the legit news story about Hunter’s laptop gives reason for the right to hope for some transparency.

The other people, corporations, and (especially) government agencies those emails will shed light on? The damage control they must be running right now would be a sight to see.
