You’ve probably noticed the trend of predictive pastors breaking out their alliteration to tell you about what Big Thing God has in store for the Current Year.
Yeah. Notice it’s always some reassuring word that THIS is the year where God’s blessings will really break through in your life. Do you suppose any of those predictive New Year’s messages told us the economy would be shut down in 2020, or that uncle Louis would lose it all in 2008, or that you needed to dump all your tech stock in 2000?
Probably not.
So, what kind of an encouraging New Year’s message could a preacher deliver without being a snake oil salesman?
Well, you could start with a really strong scripture text. And then follow up by challenging anyone listening to live up to it.
Pretty much the same formula God gives a preacher for any faithful preaching to His people.
