Dems who openly cheered when Pelosi used ruthless brass-knuckle tactics to attack her political rivals have nobody to blame but themselves when the shoe is on the other foot.
Marjorie Taylor Greene was stripped of committee assignments for ‘liking’ the wrong social media post. Nor was she the only Republican on whome Pelosi dropped the hammer.
Meanwhile, Nancy did nothing to reign in her own team when Swalwell got caught in an embarrassing sex scandal with a Chinese spy, or Ilhan Omar was openly antisemitic in her rants, or Adam Schiff was *ahem* neck-deep in every agenda to oust Trump, quite possibly using his connections to orchestrate political take-downs. That was before we found out he was actively campaigning Twitter (and probably every other tech firm) to deplatform journalists he didn’t like.
Two of these three members were part of the Intelligence Committee, with nearly-unfettered access to state secrets.
McCarthy raised eyebrows when he announced that these three would not be confirmed to the committees they were part of, because the specific cited actions were disqualifying for the committees in which they played a role.
“The Democrats have created a new thing where they’re picking and choosing who could be on committee,” McCarthy said last January. “Never in the history [of Congress] have you had the majority tell the minority who could be on committee, but this new standard, which these Democrats have voted for — if Eric Swalwell cannot get a security clearance in the private sector, there’s no reason why he should be given one to be on Intel or Homeland Security.”
McCarthy has said he fears that Swalwell may be compromised after reports emerged in 2020 that a suspected Chinese spy infiltrated his campaign and got close to the congressman.
“Eric Swalwell cannot get a security clearance in the public sector. Why would we ever give him a security clearance in the secrets to America? So, I will not allow him to be on Intel,” McCarthy told Fox News in November. “You have Adam Schiff, who had lied to the American public time and again. We will not allow him to be on the Intel Committee either.” –NYPost
As for Ilhan Omar:
“I promised you last year that as speaker she will no longer be on Foreign Affairs, and I’m keeping that promise,” he told a crowd at the Republican Jewish Coalition’s 2022 leadership meeting last November. -NYPost
The only way Democrats will stop taking obscene liberties is if we get to the point where they understand the principle of Mutually Assured Destruction.
Unless and until they believe, really believe, that any dirty trick they play against Republicans can — and will — be played against them when they are in minority, they will never stop playing dirty.
When dealing with faithless actors who have no conscience to which we can appeal, the only remaining option is self-interest. Making the price they pay for political dirty tricks greater than the rewards that can be gained is the only sure way to make them stop.
And for people who still can’t figure out the 45th POTUS’s appeal, that fighting spirit, in a nutshell, is what made Trump so very different from his predecessors.
