WATCH: Bad Lip Reading Of 118th Congress During Stalled Speaker Voting Is Comedy GOLD

As the GOP drama continues to unfold during the vote for Speaker, we may as well find a way to laugh about it.

Whatever side of the situation you fall on — standing against having a GOP squish as Speaker, or not giving in to outrageous demands by intransigent lawmakers that’ll probably bite the Republicans in the backside later — at least you can now have a laugh about it.

It all began when far-left PAC Meidas Touch tweeted a video of Republican Congressman-elect Matt Gaetz chatting with Congresswoman-elect Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York on Tuesday and asked, “What happened here? Can anyone read lips?”

The Bad Lip Reading account responded with a video, “What they were saying — trust me, I do this professionally.”

In case you were wondering what the pair were discussing, it appears Gaetz was trying to confirm that McCarthy had made a side deal with Democrats to vote “present” to lower the threshold and allow him to become Speaker. AOC told Gaetz that no such deal was made.

Gaetz told Ocasio-Cortez that McCarthy has been telling Republicans that he’ll be able to cut a deal with Democrats to vote present, enabling him to win a majority of those present and voting, according to Ocasio-Cortez. She told Gaetz that wasn’t happening, and also double-checked with Democratic party leadership, confirming there’d be no side deal.
“McCarthy was suggesting he could get Dems to walk away to lower his threshold,” Ocasio-Cortez told The Intercept of her conversation with Gaetz on McCarthy’s failed ploy. “And I fact checked and said absolutely not.”

BLR followed up with another clip of AOC this time chatting with Paul Gosar of Arizona.

The pair were also discussing whether Democrats would help McCarthy get over the line to become Speaker, this time the tactic was apparently to get a few Democrats to leave so McCarthy could take the gavel.

According to a source close to Ocasio-Cortez, Gosar came to her with concerns that Democrats might be planning to help Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) secure the speakership despite growing opposition to his bid from far-right members of the Freedom Caucus.
“Gosar heard from McCarthy that McCarthy could get Dems to leave [and] thereby lower the number of votes he needed,” the source explained…
…The source said Gosar asked Ocasio-Cortez if the rumor that Democrats planned to aid McCarthy was “true.”
“She said, no, it wasn’t,” the source explained.

They seem to be having a reasonably pleasant chat. Surprisingly so since AOC had accused him of posting a video “depicting her murder” when he shared an edited anime meme back in 2021. The Democrat-controlled house removed Gosar from all committee assignments after posting the short video clip, so it’s a bit of a surprise to see them chatting so cordially.

A third video featured the man himself, Kevin McCarthy and Marjorie Taylor Greene.

This one doesn’t need much imagination about what was said, MTG has been backing McCarthy from the first ballot.

So, while this all continues to play out, at least you know that Bad Lip Reading is taking the opportunity to make some funny videos.

And we could all use that right now.
